Yea i just replaced it and made sure i didnt twist the wires or anything like that. BUt maybe it could be the wiring going to the ecu for the o2 sensor. Right now its at an aamco for a different problem so ill tell them to take a look at it. THanks

Good Luck @ Ammco they screwed me over on my last car when they did a shotty job putting the transmission back and then come to find out it had to be taken back because they didn't rebuild the torque converter. All in all the extended warranty was the only thing that helped me outta that mess.

Okay. I have a question. Here in Washington state they don't do visuals on the underneath of the car but they hook it up to a machine through the OBDII reader. Has anyone failed an emissions test because they didn't have a cat on?

Basically if the answer is "yes" I can fail the test then I will be selling the OBX headers.

Another question is how often our cars have to be taken in for an emissions test. I just had my car tested earlier this year.

thats why you get a cel eliminator. It tricks the ecu. When hooked up through a code reader while your car is running, you can see it working and showing the code reader that the rear 02 sensor is getting a leaner signal. Anyone therefore looking at it and not knowing whats up would think that simply means that the cat is under your hood doing its job.

Just received OBX headers today.

Still trying to make a decision on whether to actually install them, tho.

The reason why I'm ho humming about on the forums is because I don't want to have to do an emissions test a year or two from now and find out I need to put the stock back on just to pass the test. So what I need to know is if I install the headers, make sure that the CEL doesnt come on, and go take a test, will I pass?

Depends on how they test your emissions. If they hook it up to your pipe, you wont pass. Even so, its not a big deal to swap out the headers. If your concerned about emissions, why mod at all?

i live in spokane they just hook up to your ECU and thats it. I just passed saturday and i have rrm header and cel eliminator and it worked for me but it only works on 90% of cars from what i hear.

Its no big deal if u fail, you dont have to pay for the second test. So if you fail just throw your stock header on and go back and you will pass.

I like doing stuff with my car but I'm not one that likes to do a job twice. Plus my dad who is against me installing it would be like " I told you so" if I had to swap headers for the original.

Yeah, I think earlier this year when I had my car tested they just hooked up to the computer to test it. However I wasn't really paying attention if they hooked up to the exhaust. I know on my 92' Mercury Sable they did hook up to the exhaust.

I'd have to search for my receipt for the emission check to see if they checked the exhaust but I think the post above this is correct about only checking the computer.

Alright, well thanks for answering my questions and I will mull it over.

in the state of washington anything with OBDII is hooked up to the computer and tested. which means anything that is 1996 or newer is tested by hooking up to the computer. Anything older than 1996 they sniff. which means they hook it up to your exhaust.

conclusion just get the CEL eliminator and you will be fine.

With CEL eliminator it will not have a CEL related to our header or any other one. IF you have issue, call us with the code you have and we will help out. Alot of times it is the o2 sensor that is bad. Remember these cars are getting old and these sensors seem to last on about 3 years.

Saweet!

OBX header is installed.

Yesterday I started knocking off the exhaust bolts to get the header off the downpipe by myself with much success (used some Amsoil MP along with an electric double clutch impact wrench, plugs into car's cig lighter). Later my dad helped me speed up the process and we worked to get the rest of the old parts off. BTW thanks a BUNCH for all the information as my dad was like....wow they know what they are talking about.

However the problem came Saturday morning as we were lining up the downpipe and realized that it wasnt positioning correctly. My theory is that either it wasn't for my specific car (but what did the header fit??) or it just wasn't a direct bolt-on. So my dad put on some long bolts with some nuts and called it good. Lets say I know what my car sounds like without an exhaust. So we made it to the exhaust shop and the guy charged me half of what he originally quoted because we had done everything except the pipe. So about a half hour and 50 dollars later my header installation was complete. We told the installer about the CEL trick with the eliminator but I'm not sure he actually used it.

Conclusion: Before he put it on the rack we got a CEL light which was expected because the O2 sensor wasn't plugged in. After I got the car back the light was on. However after driving to and from work the light never came on (crosses fingers). Performance wise I haven't driven the car enough to get a good feel for the difference but I believe it's got more gusto when getting on it. Sound wise the car sounds AWESOME! ! ! ! Even though I only have the original muffler I love the growl at idle and when I start driving I don't think it really puts out too much noise.

Just a note: When under med. to hvy acceleration I do notice a whistle/rustle coming from the header but from the information I gathered it might be the flex pipe part of the header. Anyone heard of this?

So a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who posts How-tos for stuff like this and to people who answered all my concerns.

Maybe now I will actually have a chance if I show up to the South Hill, WA meet up at the Mall.

Alright after all these months of trying to figure out what my problem was with o2 sensors its been solved. I took it to a shop because i needed a tranny rebuild. So, they rebuild it and my tranny is switching gears good now. Then i asked him to look at the o2 sensor. he said it needed to b replaced and so i got it replaced. FOr whatever reason when he replaced it, it turned off the check engine light. When i bought my SNG o2 sensor i must have gotten a defective one because i know how toinstall o2 sensors properly and the SNG sensor must have been a dud. The check engine light is off and $125 later all is good. lol
