Gas Sensor/Guage

so i just recently noticed how everyone is getting sumwhat decent gas mileage so i thought itd be fun to see what i got...well after gettin about 240-250 miles a tank i noticed then my gauge seems a little off. well a lot. When i get to 1/4 tank i notice that i get to empty a lot quicker, after 2 more start ups im empty with the light on. i Usually drive for about a whole day on an empty tank because im an idiot but the last couple fills i noticed im only getting 10.4 gallons in after i overfill it. is this something everyone else is getting or is it just my piece of crap guage and sensor?

The gauge isn't off...the tank is designed as such. I've gone around 200 miles on a half tank on an all hwy trip, and the second half of the tank only lasts half as long.

i think it does that as a precaution , so the last two gallons are probably when the low fuel light comes on, its probably so the driver wont be left without gas

well according to the owners manual when the light comes on u have approximately 30 miles left in the tank, so there is neough time to reach a station. thats understandable, but i drive around with my gas light on for a day, i live in west palm beach so thats about 30-40 more miles im putting on my car with the light on. that should bring me to completely sputtering to a stop empty. i guess nobody understands what im talkin about here

From another threads, we've all came to the consensous that there is about 2 gallons left when that light comes on. So 40 miles is very feasible....just don't run the car dry! Not good for the fuel pump at all!

It's the design of the tank! Think of it like a regular oil funnel. The top half has more volume than the bottom half. Understand?

how could u even come up with the image of a gas tank as a funnel? have u looked under ur car....ever? its an obvious shape, it doesnt matter if its got more on top or not, its a pump. sucking/ u have the sensor at the top u wont read the bottom so it must read it at the correct level no matter what. otherwise they would correct the gauge to follow it. im lookin for logic...loooggiiccc
