Jerkiness when slowing down

I have a 2003 Lancer OZ with 101k miles on it. Recently I've started to get a jerky feeling from the car when I'm doing around 20 mph and then I hit the brakes. I don't know how automatic transmissions work so I was hoping somebody had an idea of what was wrong with my car.

I have a similar problem. To me it just feels like it's downshifting really hard, but I don't know why it would. It's only sometimes, and only usually within the first 5 minutes of driving it. Is it time for a transmission flush? or what can i do to eliminate this?

You said you "hit" the brakes??? Meaning you stepped on it gently to decelerate or did you slamm on em? If your synchros are struggling to mesh with the lower gear so ya like mitsuozboi said a transmission flush may fix the issue. Search for the transmission fluid change thread in the how to's. I noticed you didn't have any mods listed so we're assuming the vehicle is completely stock right?

Yeah, first thing first...if you've never changed the ATF, it's a good time to start! But it does sound more like a brake thing seeing the "problem" happens when you hit the brakes, right?

just FYI. You cant flush all the fluid in an auto yourself like you can a manual. Only a little at a time unless you have the "special tool". Have to have a shop do it.

^4 qts at a time to be exact...that's good amount. Just do that at the next two additional oil changes and you'll be good. I did it myself in this same method...12 qts of Mitsu ATF is cheaper than a Jiffy Lube job. And safer!

Could be the stock motor mounts.

I don't know about napoli's problem but i'm pretty sure mine is in the transmission. It's not necissarily under braking, just when the car is decelerating, and downshifting. My car has 61K on it and it's an 04. I bought it from a dealer and I'm sure it's never had any transmission work. Thanks for the reply's.

Yeah, a flush could possibly help with that...try resetting the ECU as well!
