Is it a PZEV

Hey all, I bought my car in New York but I know my dealer had to trade for my GTS with one from NJ. I have read that NJ has PZEV engines, is there a way I can visibly check to see if my engine is a PZEV or not?

Unfortunately, because my car was transferred from NJ, there was no window sticker.

I am trying to get my dealer to get a hold of this.

I would be interested to know as well, has to be some sort of ID specific to the PZEV models on the car. Either part of the VIN code or somewhere.

Did any of your window stickers say whether it was PZEV or not?

You can only buy car models that meet PZEV standards if you live in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, or Vermont — or in some sales regions near these states. These five "clean car states" have implemented California's more stringent motor vehicle pollution control rules. Other states will soon begin implementing these standards, including Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington.

sooo since ur from new york...AND ur car was from new jersey.... u have two strikes against u if u didn't want a car with pzev.. lol makes me wonder if my car is zpev b/c i bought mine in nevada.. ****! lol

Oh boy, well hopefully because the car is from NJ there is a saving grace that the car is not PZEV.... one can only hope. I am going to go tomorrow forother work on the car and i am gonna ask for the window sticker and an alignment check.

I hope its not PZEV. Does anyone know if it will say it on the window sticker?

The window sticker that came on the car will say PZEV next to the name of the car. New Jersey is considered a "border state". So, while NJ does not require PZEV emissions regulations, NY (its bordering state) does. So under the law, any NJ dealership has the option of selling /servicing PZEV vehicles.

Incidentally, any state that sells PZEV vehicles without federal approval and is not a border state is subject to a $27,000 fine...

haha killing the planet slower and driving slower too ;-) Thanks for the responses. The dealership I got it from is horrible, its been such a bad experience so I appreciate the support here.

Is there anyway to tell if its PZEV besides the window sticker. I keep asking my dealer for the sticker and they say that the car was delivered without it but that they contacted Mitsubishi and they are furnishing another one. Does that mean they are just going to tell Mitsu what was in the car and they are gonna print out a new one based on what my dealer has told them, or are these stickers on record and they are sending me a copy of the original?

ARGHHH!

The car was delivered with a sticker...it's illegal otherwise. You didn't ask where the sticker was before you purchased your car AND you purchased a car without a window sticker???? Never go to that dealership again. Windows stickers are kept on record.

Like I said, this dealership is horrible and I have had nothing but problems.

I wound up calling Mitsubishi themselves and found out that my car does indeed have the Cali emissions standard. So now I am even more pissed lol. So here are my other questions

1) Is there a way around this - something was put into the engine to lower emissions, can it be taken out?

2) Is there something I can do to get a different car - i bought it saturday - is it too late? Is there anything i can do?

3) How big a deal is the lower emissions engine? Is it a big difference? I dont plan on racing my car but it still the fact that its 9 HP less, makes me mad.

Btw, I asked for the window sticker that day and they said that because it flatbedded from NJ that the sticker is still in NJ and that they would get it to me. I have a feeling they are getting Mitsu to reproduce another one.

if any of your invoices do not stay that it is a PZEV, anything signed by the GM or your sales rep in regards to what you were buying. it could make for a good legal dispute. This is assuming that the documentation is suppost to state it clearly. find out from the dealer the difference in the two invoices, look at another cars invoice that doesnt have this PZEV in it.

If the dealer techinically mis represented a fact, you could litigate for compensation.

I thought Cali was the only place personally but i hear the Governator is having a influence on other states. "Get to the Chopper" lol

1) An ECU flash and/or high-flow cats might help (both of which would violate your warranty)

2) Not without a lawyer

3) It's not a big deal. Whether your car is Federal or PZEV, it's still a cow in a track suit...9 HP isn't going to make that much of a difference.

But try to put a positive spin on it: The car looks bad **** AND it's environmentally friendly, so you get the best of both worlds.
