problem with my heater unit?

i been having problems with the hvac control unit for awhile. specificly the cold/hot knob.. my freind has an 02 es and has the same issue as me . the difficulty turning the cold/hot knob to the hot position. its been giving me heavy resistance when i turn it.... i called mistsubishi el cajon they wanted ~$250-300 for a replacement hvac control unit....
for about 2 weeks now my car doesnt blow hot air anymore when the knob is in the hot position. funny thing is my defrost function works fine when i use it.. a/c is working fine aswell

my cars basic warrenty is out ( mileage is close to 48k ).bought the car last year feb 18 of 07'. i think that is covered under the basic but i dont have basic warrenty anymore..

if multiple lancers had the same issue why isnt this on a recall?

the only recall i know of is the ecu reflash.. i asked that when i bought the car and they said the ecu reflash was done

Recalls only apply to known safety or emissions issues. This is a known problem. Try switching the heater box located on the right side of the driver's side footwell (it's a white box) to hot manually.

I had the same problem in my old '03 OZ... had to pay $250 to fix it (Mitsu wanted $800). All it is are little plastic pieces & cords/wires behind the nob that resist, brake, or get tangled. I had to have the plastic pieces replaced & it took the idiots almost a whole week to receive parts & fix it. It worked fine afterwards... the only problem being the heat never got as hot as it once did... so make sure to check that.
