daytime headlights

How do you shut off the day time running headlights on the 08 lancer gts? I've looked in the owners manual and it doesn't say. I called the dealer and they said that there is no way of shutting them off. I'm in the military and when you approach the gates your supposed to put only your parking lights on. Iv'e gotten yelled at for not shutting my lights off...any Ideas?

Use the search button. There's a couple of ways people have been doing that are detailed in other threads. There is no quick and simple way to do it, all involve a bit of work. GL

I wouldn't even bother trying to disable the daytime lights.
1. gonna be a pain cutting and rewiring some wires that you may not want to actually modify
2. its a safety feature that discounts your insurance.

I was military about 5 years ago and I can tell you that the guards at the gate love giving ppl a hard time, thats how they get thier jollies off. If it were me, next time one of them yelled at me for having daytime running lights I would tell him --- that if he would like to figure out how to shut daytime running lights off he's more than welcome to, but I doubt he has the brain power to even find the battery in the car.--- Word for word thats what I would tell him, plus I'd probably insult him some if he yells at you every time you go by him at the gate.
I mean come on 1 time I can see but if its the same damn guy doing it, he's just a moron.

There is no fuse for the DRLs. I thought that the relay might be the part doing all the switching for the DRLs so I unplugged it and put the fog relay in its place. It just toggles that relay and you listen to the damn relay clicking. The relay for the DRLs is a high power solid state relay so that you don't have to listen to it switching.

Yep, should of been a question that your insurance company asked you when you bought the car.

DAVIDGTS08 ..... let me guess these are the contractor security guards.....lol. We have them too.

David the only thing I would be concerned with is if you said you had Daytime lights on your insurance and you disable them, could result in insurance fraud if they were to find out. Just be careful.
As far as the guards, most people know now days that almost all new cars come with daytime running lights so f them.

yes chris as gator said most companies give you something of a discount if you have daytime running lights. They ask you that about as often as them asking you if you have an anti-theft device (alarm) in the car, which also can be a discount.

Ft. Knox has contractor gate guards, and they are stupid as hell. So just look at them like they are stupid and tell them over and over that its daytime running lights and carry on. Either that or when they talk to you about it, just pull a carlos mencia and go Dee-dee-dee.

ok first off, if you say anything like that to MP like "you figure out how to turn em off" they'll bash in ur headlights and say problem fixed, then ur lookin like the a'hole and im sure DAVIDGTS08 realiizes this.

second off its real simple, when u approach the gate turn ur car off, when u move just turn ur car back on but leave ur parking brake somewhat on, ur car will let u roll about 20ft before they kick on, just keep doing this in line until u get passed the gate.

.... OR you know what you could do, you could put your car into the parking light mode and tell them to bite your... ? thats also an idea considering we do have a parking light option on that little knob.

Probably not an MP, instead a private DoD contractor like most bases have nowadays.

Check out my thread for disabling DRL's with HID's - can be applied to non HID as well - just use with a relay harness and stock bulbs.
