im having problems tracking down a weird ticking noise in my 02 es.
i thought it was an exhaust leak but ive check every connection and nothing seems to be leaking.
it sounds like a valve tapping like crazy but only when im above like 2700 rpm so im pretty sure its not a valve.
im stumped and need all the help i can get its driving me frickin crazy.
edit: i forgot to mention it only make this noise when im driving when i just rev it it does it quietly

I had a noise kinda like that with old engine. What do you use? And are you in need of an oil change because after you run seafoam you need to change your oil. But seafoam did help with my noise. But changing to mobile 1 5w-30 was the trick for my engine. No noise almost at all. Same with new motor no noise yet anyway.
Seafoam can help yes, but only if you put it in the oil. And you dont need to change the oil till recommended timing when you just put it in the oil. If you run it through the intake, the so called "seafoam treatment", you are supposed to change your oil right after. Also, check your oil levels, you'll develop random ticks when the level is low.
thanks for the replys.
my oil is full and im not in need of a change for another 500 miles.
i use castrol syntech 5-w30
im gonna try out the seafoam and see if that helps tommorow im hopin for the best i cant take that frickin ticking haha

Your gonna have to dissassemble the head and clean the lifters. Very easy project, no need to drain oil or remove the head from the car. You just take the valve cover off, take off the rocker assembly, and then pull out the lifters and watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKX2pYVO0Ak . I know it isnt our car, but its a mitsu and the procedure works the same. Its really not a difficult procedure. PM me for pics if you want of the disassembled head if you want an idea of how to do it. Just saying.
