Extremly low idle
Extremly low idle
Hey guys,
Just recently i noticed my car (when in park only) idles right at 500 and i can hear the car sputter like its going to die. when im at a stop in gear it idles around 750RPM +/- 100, but as soon as i put it in park it drops drastically to 450 then jumps to 550ish and sits at 500 RPMS. I have no code for low idle, how ever i had to cut my exhaust out from after the flex pipe to after the cat and replaced it with straight pipe. All i have is the mani cat and its all straight pipe till the HKS muffler, so right now i have no second 02 sensor, i had to cut the wires so i could replace the pipe, im going to drill a hole in the pipe later and put the sensor back in with the non-foulers. Is not haveing an 02 sensor pluged in giving it a low idle? I have no vac leaks as my gauge normally reads 22 psi of vac at idle. Any suggestions guys? Thanks
-Tony
Here is the pipe i had to cut out...its all mangled up and there is a dent in it so bad near the cat the pipe dimensions were only 1 1/8'' instead of 2 1/4''. the person before me hit something and a shop tryed to bend it, it looks like.

Only engine mods done are SRI, and cooland bypass mod, and no second 02 sensor as of now until i can re wire it

holy crap dude my stock down pipe looks exactly the same , and my car was a dog, I hollowed out the front manifold cat ..no o2 light, more power and a nice rumble now =)
I think one of the issues with the mitsu idle air control on almost all cars is the introduction of heat by the coolant running through the throttle body, Ive replaced the sensors on alot of mitsu's probably since I started at mitsu around 500 sensors, at $300 a sensor , I think mitsu can stop selling cars and still make tons of cash off them
..
that and people with the coolant bypass always have there iac's last longer then the stock setup from my experience...

Bro how did you hollow the mani cat?? i been wanting to do this too!! straight pipe it, with a muffler= loud+decent tone! Did you cut the pipe at the bend, hollow it, and re weld it?? And so the coolant bypass mod was a good idea? ill change it back, i did do the mod but i was afraid it was messin with the idle, it seems to be better now after i re-set the comp.

grab a dust mask and a long shirt and a long somewhat thick flathead jam straight up into the cat and start breaking chunks out, after the large junks fall , you'll get to the surrounding material which is like fiberglass insulation , rip that all out , then there is a stainless band also , kinda like a brillo pad type deal , rip that sucker out as well...
after all that start the car and rev it a bit to blow an any residual chunks or dust , install a new d/p gasket and put the o2 back in and bolt the d/p back up and one would be done with this mod on on there way to a car that sounds exactly like a modded evo
..lol best part is no engine light because the front o2 is before the cat =)the coolant bypass mod is ok imho idle will be around about 800 thats only 50 higher then stock off the showroom floor you wont even notice a difference other then a longer lasting idle speed controller

^^ Thanks for the advise bro im deff going to give this a shot woo!! my D/P bolts are in pretty rough condition (rust) so ill see what i can do there, And ill go ahead an do the C/B mod again, just wasnt sure if this way why i was getting 500 RPM idle in park, but it must of been just a funny glitch and its ok after i reset the ECU, thanks for the help bro. Where do you work for mitsu? I work at KIA parts dept in norwood MA
Maybe you can help me out with this one.. when i cut the section of exhaust pipe off, i left the 02 sensor in it just cut the wires, got the sensor out of the pipe today, There are four wires, one blue, and the other white and i didnt notice until now there are two black wires!! i cant remember which black connects to eachother, does it matter, it must? I was ready to solder them back together but i cant figure out which black wire connects where because there are two black wires! I looked on alldata and all it had was testing instructions and diagrams, nothing about colors tho, any ideas??

Oh are you talking about the actual o2? thats not good , the only way to tell is to contact the manufacturer , they all use different colors...
also your never ever supposed to cut the actual o2 wires
