clunky lancer shifting
disagree totally................. how can you "HAVE" to shift to firsst every time? are you towing a U-Haul trailor and trying to slow down? there is NO reason to HAVE to down shift to first in these litle cars on city streets. that is why they make brakes. you are doing nothing but adding extra wear and tear on your transmission
so let's just slam it into first, you should be able to manage the fuel flow by better means...........
I am sure there are people out there with turbo that have over come this problem that do not have to down shift into first to keep from stalling..............
you obvioulsy have the funds to get this problem resolved especailly if you are playing Russian roulette with your trans mission............
it is called tuned correctly...........

Well this is becoming a flame war.
Downshifting to 1st at 5Mph or lower should not cause and damage to the tranny. You just need to make sure not to punch it into gear. Let the clutch back out and put it in again if you have resistance. It'll clear it up enough to safely engage first, so says my service manager.

you can go from 2nd to 1st w/o ****ing w/ ur transmission if ur going like 5-10km/hr. I've had to do it a few times up here b/c of freezing rain. If you touch ur brakes u'd slide. So u gear down enough so u can use ur brakes. That is why Manuals are better in bad road conditions then automatics...GEARING DOWN!!
i had the same problem with the notchy feeling right after i changed my clutch. i filled the tranny up when i was done as much as i could with 75w90 gear oil and it felt notchy after 50 miles. i tried to fill it again and it took the rest of the 3rd qt. problem solved.
you gear down in freezing rain? on ice?
it seems to me if (and lets just use round numbers) you were going 20 mph and were on ice and wanted to slow down and you shifted the tranmission into a lower gear (which increases the number of RPMs to maintain the same speed) you are creating a slide. if the vehicle is moving at 20 mph and you geared it down to a lower the speed since it has no traction (or limited traction) a slide would be inevitible. that is why the teach you to feather your brake inorder to decrease wheel speed.......

i dunno, gearing down in **** conditions work for me. Theres stuff u have to take in consideration too. Obviously im not gonna boot it and then gear down on icey roads and expect to stop, u have to give urself space and ****.
Each to there own I guess
