Hey I just installed a high output alternator which people have gotten and I know they sell quality product but! Ever since I installed it when I idle it's at anywhere from 12.8-13.5 when I'm driving it's at 14-14.1 which is strange cause my stock would idle at 14.2-3 now I'm curious if it's the alternator or maybe cause the cpu reset? or the battery terminals need to be cleaned? I mean it's kinda strange that it goes from 14 driving to 13 idle and the alternator is supposed to be 140 amps and 75 amps idle which is almost a regular alternator at capacity what gives? Should I uninstall it and put the stock back in? PLEASE HELP!!!

 

I'd swap the stock one back in to test. It doesn't take that long. Then you'll know if it's a problem with the new alternator.

 

Mine idles about 12.5 to 13 as well

 

is this with a stock pulley or underdrive pulley?

 

Stock I'd assume or so the lady from the company told me..

 

Dude if yours is idling at 12.5 to 13 something is seriously wrong esp if you have a system in your car you'd be killing your battery weekly!

 

From what I've read. H.O alternators require an underdriven pulley to make higher voltage at idle.

Even if it needed it which I'm not sure it's not the issue the issue is I'm getting like 12.8-13v idle and I don't know why when with my stock alt I was getting 14.2

 

throw the stock one back on there and check the voltage. If it is at 14 then its the alternator.

 

I know I didn't install the alternator though long story I was hurt in a motorcycle accident and can't use my right hand the best so I had my shop do it but that's what's gonna happen

 

I can't recall if I installed my volt gauge before I installed my H/O alt so idk.

I have been running this alt setup for almost two years now and I have not killed any batteries or anything of the sort. I can tell you I noticed the difference when I put in the H/O alt compared to stock.

 

I just realized what one of the main problems are.. The fan control module is shot it has a recall for this year and when the fan is running which is most all the time the voltage is hammered! BUT when it's not running it's 14.2 also being I reset the cpu it gets kinda iffy for a while or at least that's what I've noticed till it gets the data etc I started my car up today and had a voltage of 14.7 true voltage but that fan kicks in and slowly knocks it down.. At least I know it's not the alternator now!

 

I take back my previous comment I went to the store a few minutes ago tuned the lights on and bang 12.8v.. I will be putting in the stock alternator tomorrow and live with it that's all
