Post Whats this noise? (Video Inside)

Okay, so I bought my son a 2008 lancer GTS it has the automatic. It has a whine to it, After reading on the forum a lot of people say old CVT fluid causes it. So I did a drain and refill (genuine fluid) which others said fixed theirs but it did not fix ours.

After making this video, it seems like its on the pulley side not the tranny side. Could the power steering pump be making this noise? It seems to go up and down with RPM.

I do have a problem with the battery dying if I dont drive it for 5+ days. So could it be the alternator making the noise? I think that may be a parasitic draw though. may be unrelated.

Anyway, here is the video.

Yep! That is a bearing going bad.

It is not the tranny.

I would recommend CAREFULLY listen at each accessory using a long socket extension to your ear. You will hear the difference (suddenly so much louder an any other). If you don't hear one louder than others - I would suspect the pulley tensioner. Replace with a Hyundai metal pulley and install a new belt.

You have a timing chain stretch sensor.
If it is not flagging a MIL - then it may still be something else...

It sounds like it could be a power steering pump; have you checked the fluid level? Also I know one member mentioned a socket extension and listening, but they also have stethoscopes with long metal rods coming out of the end instead of the disc they use at the doctors office. Using one of those makes it extremely easy to find where a bearing is going bad just by the difference in the sound coming from each area.
