Blown engine?

Ok, im gonna try this agian. i dont want to hear your op. on nitrous, i dont care. But, if you have some expertise, id appreciate it. I think i may have f**cked up a piston. now here is my question. which is cheaper, the stock piston heads or the aftermarket ones? im about to start tearing my block apart, and id like to have these parts on order.

I think its about the same. To be sure call your local dealer and get a price. Then go to the RRM site and look at there price.

I agree with what Danno said. Once you get the pricing down for stock and aftermarket pistons (check some other sources than RRM to round out your options), you might want to consider just buying another engine. I was browsing salvage yards and found some for around $500. I plan on buying one a little bit down the road to build up to go along with the turbo kit I'm buying. This way you can still drive your car around, and build up the one that blew.

Actually i believe the JE Pistons are cheaper because the pistons from the dealershipp cost about 500--600 but you also have to order the piston ring set too they dont come together and I think those come up to abou 250-300. I duno but when I did the math it made more sense to go with the JE than the stockers.

Do you have a link to the JE pistons? also, the $500 junker engine sounds like a darn good idea. i just need a cherry picker.....

if there is something wrong with the stock pistons why get them again? why not getting something stronger that can handle what ever ur doing to ur engine? regardless of the price (unless the price is way out of reach) in the long run it'll be cheaper...

Dont even mess with the stock pistons. They have silcon in them which is like glass when it heats up. So if your motor detenates there breaks the glass. Get some good racing pistons. I got the Ross pistons and they are awsome. They will be a little noisy when the car is cold but it doesnt hurt anything. They use a .006 clearance if you run some sort of forced injection, if you run N/A then they run .002 clearance. Also get them coated. 3 staged coated will make it so they dont tear up your cylinder walls, they disperse heat better, and it makes them stronger. Also 100K miles down the road the rumor is you can pull the pistons out spray them with brake clean and wipe them off and they are like brand new with the coating. Just my 0.02

Chances are, you'll still be running nitrous in the future, correct? Then get the upgraded pistons, because you've once again proved that the stock Lancer pistons cannot handle nitrous.
