well in CA, it's illegal to take off smog equipment. a catalytic converter is such a device. i would argue that the first cat is actually just used for helping cold starts rather than used as a smog device but law is all about definite definitions. the only way to make it really legal is to get a CARB (california air and resources board) number by proving the header works as well as the equipment it replaces.

what if you added a high flow cat after the header and eliminated the factory cat then welded a bung after the high flow cat for the rear O2 sensor? would that eliminate the CEL problem and alow it to pass emission testing? atleast in areas that they dont pop the hood

depends

If you do not have to smog the car ever then go for the header .then take the car to the muffler shop of choice remove pre cat be shure the shop under stands the bung must go back in for the sensors . get a hi flow cat to replace the stock cat . elimonat the resonator or get a hi flow one . and the a good hi flow muffler . but as a start if their is no smog test start with the header and go from their . o and be shure the shop puts the bung for the last sensor after the cat I have seen some shops put it before the cat and that dont work. And I would not go any larger that 2.25 or 2.5 if you plan on even more mods to the mortor that 2.5 would be wort it if you change the cam and throttel body.

I have the rrm headers on my car with rrm intake and a custom test pipe and a magnaflow exhaust. those headers unleash the beast!! especially on the freeway. they are great and strongly recocamend them. hey road race, i am going to have to buy that cel fixer because my cel went on about 6 days after i put on the headers. it cam on the day i got my oil changed at my mitsu dealership. Looks good majin, nice job on the install. Just got mine today and can't wait to get it on. I have an appointment with my dealer in two weeks though, think I;ll wait till after then. A god damn screw fell out from my dash, which led to an unknown rattle. Is the o2 sensor as hard to get off as the test pipe?

Invest in an O2 socket. That will definitely help on off of either header or T.P.
