I'm pretty sure he's referring to the ring and pinion that's failing. The ring gear goes around the front diff and the pinion gear is what spins the driveshaft to drive the rear wheels.

What's strange is that this is the first case of anyone writing about this type of failure. So this could just be an isolated case. Most people who break their transfer cases from drag racing kill the spider gears inside the front diff due to wheel hop. A failing ring and pinion gear would probably be caused by improper assembly at the factory. Did the gear teeth break?

So you had OEM fluid in the TC but what about the clutch restrictor spring? In or out?

I currently own both cars (Evo & Supra TT). They are both fun cars to drive. I think the Evo handles better stock vs stock against the Supra. But like it was said before, with money you can accomplish anything. With coilovers, sways, stb, rtb, etc...a Supra can handle pretty damn well also. Speed wise, its hard to beat the potential of a Supra. My buddies Supra put down 980rwhp on the stock block, another friend with a SC300 (GTE swap and SP71GTQ turbo kit, cams, fuel sys) put down 802rwhp recently. Also they both race at the track and are not dyno queens as some would like to think. This is not to say a Evo can't be just as fast. I've raced both my cars against eachother with a buddy driving the Evo. He would pull on me off the line to 60, but after 60 my Supra just walks away. Both cars are running stock boost. Supra has only a dp, exhaust, and Blitz SUS filter and its riding on 19inch Blitz wheels. The Evo is stock except for Helix catback and HKS intake. Overall its a tough decision to have to make. Both cars are different animals. Its like comparinf apples to oranges. You really just need to makeup a Pro/Con list and go from there. Good thing about the Evo, put on snow tires and you can drive all year, with the Supra, it'll be sitting for 5-6months out of the year (if you live in a state which winter is a *****). ALso I've noticed right away Evo parts are way cheaper then Supra parts. Good luck with your choice..This is all just my .02.

Keep the Evo. Besides, Supras are perhaps the most overrated and overhyped Japanese car we've witnessed.
