2005 Mustang GT- Be READY fellas!
2005 Mustang GT- Be READY fellas!
I wasn't expecting too much performance-wise from the new stang, maybe just a slight improvement over '04 and the new styling. I was wrong. The 05 Mustang is a whole new beast fellas, and you will want to be ready with your best game if you roll up next to one at a stoplight on dry pavement.
I just picked up the Motortrend Buyer's guide and MT tested the 05 Stang GT with AUTOMATIC transmission, with the following results:
0-30: under 2 seconds
0-60: 5.1 seconds
0-100: 13.7
1/4 mile: 13.6 seconds
Now THAT is a full second faster than the '04 Mustang GT with automatic, and pretty close to stock Evo performnce. Like I said, thats with a 5 speed AUTO trans. MT did not have a 6 speed manual Mustang on hand to test, which will be the cheaper and most common new GT on the road, but they estimate 0-60 in the 4.8 to 4.9 second range.
Can you still beat one in your stock Evo? In straight line on dry pavement that will depend on you. But with no ****ups by either driver, you will probably get beat . However, if the road is wet or has gravel you will have the edge, and of course in the turns where the new stang only pulls .84g and tends to understeer with all that weight up front, you have the advantage.
Now 300hp and 0-60 in under 5 seconds for $25,000 sounds like a pretty good deal to me so I have to give it up to Ford for delivering on this one. For the same money as the EVO, the Mustang SVT version is due out late 2005 with about 400HP. Now there is no doubt in my mind that car will be a stock EVO slayer on dry pavement. But of course I'm only talking stock, and a modded Evo is another story altogether.
So whats my point? Don't chuckle when a new Mustang GT rolls up next to you. Be ready to represent!

were you just born? mustang's always been a straight-line monster... why would evo's be threatened by them now?
for $21k, SRT4 goes 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, and with another few G's in mods.. can probably go 0-60 in 5 second flat... no one expected the new mustangs to be wimply going straight... why are YOU so shocked?

Um I don't like magazine racing, and I think of couple of EVOM members have already ran into 2005 Mustang GTs and won. Don't get me wrong, the 2005 Mustang GT is a sweet car but it has no where near the performance capabilities of an Evolution. Plus Motor Trend always tests fast, the EVO they tested ran the 1/4 mile in 13.0 seconds, so I doubt the new Mustang will in reality hit 60mph in under 5 seconds with the manual tranny. I believe Road and Track and Car and/or Driver have tested the car, and it has ran with the manual transmission 13.8-14.0 Seconds. You see that is why magazine tests can be tricky, of course they should be noted, but magazine tests should just be looked as part of the equation, not the whole answer.
The new Mustang will definitely be more powerfull on the top end but off the line it will be slower than the Evo. But you have to remember that it's still a Ford(the new Ford i should say....nicer design and cheapo parts.....but I do like the sound of a 'stang) and it's the 1st year for this model.....so they will definitely make some improvements in the near future. Overall I think the Mustang will be pretty fast but cornering and braking...well that's another story......and probably the most imoprtant fact about the EVO is that it is NOT a dragster......people tend to forget that.
Who cares. They are ugly as f*ck. POS Ford. I'm not impressed. In real world driving, they will not rip a sub 5 second to 60.
I do not believe 5.1 to 60 in an auto for a 300 HP to the crank car that weights that much. B.S. I don't think it will run 5.1 in a 5 speed, more like 5.5 to 60.
Motortrend is very biased toward domestics.

Screw the Stang. Line em' up, stock EVO's can hit 13 flat, 0-60 in 4.6. Now, if you were on the street doing that, any unexpected (or expected) turns will put that fugly Stang further back as you watch it get smaller and uglier in your rear view mirror. NOT worried. But thanks for the specs.

Bro with only 2 posts Newbie you sure have a way of introducing yourself to the Evo forum while talking up the Stang, letting us know we better be on our game. WTF is Ford paying you to go from site to site for this and just pop in and talk up the Stang.
If you like the mustang so much maybe you should go to www.chickcarofthecentury.com or www.fordlivesofthepastandcallsitretro.com
But on a serious note the car is quick, and no true car guy has ever doubted their performance capabilty.

Wow, talk about bias. If we're talking an auto, AND knowing how much torque the engine has, these things WILL rip a sub 5 second to 60. What WON'T perform to its max in "real world driving" is OUR evo's, that need to be launched to get those times.
And i don't see what you base your claim that Motortrend is also biased toward domestics. Motortrend, if you recall, was also the only mag to clock the EVO at 0-60 in 4.6 and the quarter in 13.

No it doesn't, the new Mustang is almost a full second off of the SVT Cobra so what are you talking about and might I add again Motor Trend tests fast. I don't even think the 2005 GT is quicker than the 2004 Mach 1.

You don't wanna know what our EVO's run in automatic GT-A form.
