one of the the most under-rated
- the merkur xr4ti's. bmw body, turbo 2.3 litre, 1000lbs lighter than the t-bird turbo coupe. everyone thinks it's a front wheel drive car. noone actually knows what it is. but it pulled 15's right out of the box and is capable of over 700 horses, just look at rick byrnes's salt flat racer using the 2.3 block and some crazy a$$ mods that anyone could do and he pulls off a 208 mph run!
Are you joking about the Viper or what? That's the #5 ricer excuse. "Well I've only got 2 liters, and you got 8! Plus I gotz mad V-tech, datz technology, y0!"

Agreed. Pushrod technology is may be old, but it sure is effective.

no, i'm not joking about the viper.what a PILE!

have you ever been in one? very shoddy craftsmanship!

and no i don't claim "Well I've only got 2 liters, and you got 8! Plus I gotz mad V-tech, datz technology, y0!" although it is far more technologically advanced than push rods.

besides i'm just saying the car is over-rated. i mean look at the lambo gallardo. v10 like the viper, quad cams, under-square engine, audi all-wheel drive. i have no concern as to engine size or number of cylinders, just that everyone thinks the viper is so big and bad yet the corvettes and stangs still beat it in the gt races.

my buddy at work has a 2003 Viper and all I can say is that is one bad a$$ car. Not only is it sexy as hell but faster than all living sin. We've gone out to lunch in it and it's like SCARY quick. As far as getting the power to the ground, it's got rubber as wide as my computer desk and handles very nice. I've been to a few track days where he's had his Viper there and it tears up the track in a big way and it's bone stock. I'd strangle puppies to be able to have a Viper and it's based on personal experience. I'd be willing to bet the guy talking crap about the Viper hasn't even been in one before.

japanese pride is the only thing keeping it in production.

still pretty to look at though
NAXes are expensive because:

1. they're VERY limited production cars (2 digit production #s per year i think)
2. they're hand made
3. body is 100% aluminum, which aint cheap

well yes, i do agree NSXes seem to be too overpriced for what it gives, but then again, I just think the car's for the name...its like saying "I own a benz/bmw/etc" when you say "I own an NSX"

anyway..

I can't comment about SRT-4's since ive never encountered one...but i think its decent (i keep hearing how it sucks at the handling department with all the suspension upgrades and etc, but then again, that argument is from the evo-owners side...but of course, the SRT-4 side keeps arguing suspension upgrade is all it needs to spank evos...so...iono..too much bias)
I think STi's are just about right; not too overhyped or underhyped...because even though EVOs and STIs are very similar, they have different characteristics...one's more techy (evo) while other's more about brute force (STi)

now with our "rival cars" out of the way..

overrated:
RSX...i-vtec =/= god...honda =/= god...damn overly fervent honda-fanboys
Cobras...Yes the car's are fricking fast on straightaways but their reliability and durability, not to mention handling? Pfft...plz...
4g63...yes i know imma get flamed for this...BUT...THIS ENGINE IS NOT THE BEST ENGINE IN THE WORLD
M3...i think they're nice cars, but their owners, who are generally idiotic and cocky, seem to ruin M3's reputation...
Mercedes in general...i know imma get flamed for this (again) but to me they're outpriced
RX-8...IMO, they're outright over-priced
Viper...i'd rather get something else for 90k thank you very much

underrated:
Integras (NOT TYPE R)...i think they have a really good potential for their price *shrug*
S2000...yes it's pretty expensive when you consider that you only dont seem to get a lot of HP/Torque compared to other cars in the same price range...but then again: (a) it's a 2 seater (b) its a convertible (c) its sexy
MR2...this BEAST has a hell of a handling

for $85,000 the viper performs in the same class as $100-200,000 cars and exotics and has monstrous potential in the aftermarket as well

it's all relative, what seems like overpriced to you is underpriced and a bargain if you look at the bigger picture

let me guess, you probably think integras and civics are UNderrated, lol

it's your opinion, but it's a skewed one

No one mentioned the Nissan / Datsun 240 (60/80) as being an underrated/overrated car. And you call yourselves car people.
