EVO vs. SRT-4 Competition???

I don't doubt those are the times you're seeing, I also dont doubt some of these guys only see srts hitting mid to high 14s, its all relative, I was trying to hypothetically level the playing field.
There's no doubt the Evo's in a different class than the SRT-4. That said, that little car is worthy of some respect. I've helped my friend mod his SRT-4 and it really is an impressive little car. I'm not saying the second you get too cocky, one's going to rip your doors off. All I'm saying is that they are completely different cars, and therefore should be respected for their individual achievements. I've come across a lot of A-Hole SRT-4 owners, but I'm sure they're trashing on some of the attitudes on here. We're different breeds and should therefore agree to disagree. A competition would maybe put some of this to rest. Other than that, the Evo is definately top dog in the world of imports, especially with our heritage and our "Evolution!" Just watch your step. There are other cars (such as the Civic) who are more worthy of being stomped on than others.
Went to MIR (Maryland Int. Raceway) last weekend in a convoy of 2 evos (inc. mine), 1 stock '04 M3, and 2 Stage 1+ SRT-4s. Granted one of them had some kind of intercooler injection. The guys were really nice and both ran mid 13s w/o slicks and 12.8s with slicks on. I was really suprised.
I managed a 13.100, and the other evo 12.956, while the M3 was at 13.111... I was pretty impressed with their performance and how cheap it is to modify them. As soon as my buddy rips a cd from my camera I will post them up on this thread...

I have never had a problem with the SRT-4, before it's introduction I awaited it's arrival with much enthusiam and anticipation, and I do not believe I was let down. Any car that is capable of running high 13s, low 14s bone stock is pretty impressive especially when it's price tag is only around $20K. The SRT-4 is a great little car that can go very fast in a straight line and offers decent all around performance for a great price tag, I have never denied such a fact. Still the owners of these cars are in a state of ignorance, especially when they began to make their cars out to be more than what they really are? Don't get me wrong, the SRT-4 has loads of potential, and it will one day be up there with big boys, but I'm sorry that time has not yet arrived, no matter how much many SRT-4 owners would like to believe it. My point is while go fast in a straight line is very impressive, it is nothing new, and has been done on many ocassions. The EVO is in another class, as far as potential and all around performance. I'm tired of so many SRT-4 owners simply ignoring the facts, and having the audicity to put so many cars down when they have yet to prove anything themselves.

lol im going to say something here and i want you all to listen.

god. there are fast EVERYTHING. i have a friend of mine with a gremlin that would own 99.8% of the evo's on this site. and an srt4 stock will not ever come close to an evo stock. there is a reason for this. its 10k less and its fwd. when you go buy an srt4 you are not buying a rally inspired race car. your buying a very fast neon that can be modded out to be even faster.
please. stop the friggin hating. do you want the m5 crowd to start hating on evo's? talking about how we are some 34thousand dollar pieces of crap? you rag on srt4's because they are affordable and not as fast as you. should the bmw owners and the skyline owners and the lambo owners be ragging on us? your a bunch of hypocrites. as long as someone puts the wrench time into their car what do you care what they drive? you ****** are the reason im a member of nasioc. stop the hating and maybe you wont be so damned hated
edit :: i just wrote this whole thing because some damned twit dug up a 2 year old thread!? go die

I can't really say much from personal experience racing, but for the money, the SRT-4 puts out awesome HP to dollar numbers. Yeah, people buy them because they don't or can't shell out enough for an Evo or STi, but the same could be said of M3's being compared to Evo's. You can talk all you want about who is gonna take who in a drag and based upon who has spent what on mods. For what it is worth, you can throw enough money into a lot of STOCK cars that are slower than Evo's and end up with a drag strip monster. (Yes, I'm sure there are exceptions, rebuttals, blah, blah, blah.) It's a moot point IMO. Now if were talking turns and less pure straight line acceleration, I'll take an Evo over most any car. The Evo is a rally inspired car and I intend to use it like one
At the time this thread was made I had an Srt-4. There were two Srt's in the 10's. On eof them was whitemtnsrt-4 that lives right here in Az. He drove his 10 sec Srt from Prescott, to Surprise, Az to bust out consistent 10 sec passes, and then drove it home again..about an hour trip throught the mountains each way.
All of that being said, here we are almost 2 years later.....and those POS's havent gotten much faster. Theres at least 3 evos in the 8's now, and the Srt still hasnt joined the party.
Heck you have to replace the motor mounts on your srt just to keep from snapping axles or cracking an oil pan while running it at the track. You srt owners know its happened to many Srt's in the past so dont try to act like it isint a common thing.
While Srt's are fast cars..they are still made to be affordable, and thus some things had to be sacrificed to do it, and you can tell Dodge just didnt think too well about some things when they put the car together. Some parts are cheap, and made out of cheap materials, and it shows. But when it comes to bang for your buck, you really cant get much better for sub 20k.
The Evo is an Evo. Theres a reason why it costs more. AWD components cost money. Its like 3000 for a new t case for christ sakes, not to mention you get the 4g, one hell of a suspension setup, bad *** brakes, better styling (IMO) and a car easily distinguishable from its econobox roots. Stock Evos have been run by almost every magazine in the low 13's stock. No Srt has done that. Sure it takes like 500 in mods to get there in the srt, but we are talking platforms....and the Evo is obviously superior.

Speaking of SS Cobalts earlier on the thread, even though it was 2 years ago, there appears to be a lot of building options out there for them as well. I never realized this till i pulled dead even with one a few weeks back! Granted i was stock and he wasnt, but still. Bang for the buck!
