I would say the base Lancer can't compare with the base Impreza.

Lancer 2.0
$12,000
FF
120HP

Impreza 2.5RS
$20,000
AWD
165HP

I look at the pricing and performance again for the Lancer. You're right, they don't align. The lancer is at a much lower price point and performance than the Impreza 2.5 RS. It looks like Mitsu and Suby don't really line up in the bottom end of the spectrum. This is probably due to the difference in target market. The Impreza probably lines up more with the Eclipse in terms of performance and Galant in terms of form factor. So it probably looks more like this.

Mitsu Lancer = no Suby equivalent
no Mitsu equivalent = Suby Impreza 2.5 RS
no Mitsu equivalent = Suby Impreza WRX
Mitsu EVO = Suby STi
Mitsu RallyArt EVO = Suby Prodrive STi

EVO:
MSRP + Dest = 29,582
Brake Cooling = 149
Front Brace = 422
Rear Brace = 385
Rear Wing = 480
Air Dam = 231
Total Price = 31,249

STI:
MSRP + Dest = 31,545
1) Front brace is standard. Optional one is for asthetics.
2) Rear brace not required due to extensive chassis reinforcements at rear shock mounts and between c-pillars. Option is for people who have to have one.
3) Brake cooling channels are integrated into the undercover. Check out US EVO Encyclopedia on this forum. Need for and effectivness of additional pieces is questionable.
4)Air dam is a waste of money, have you seen it yet?

Price, including destination charges, that you can actually get an EVO for today :
AOO: Big wing: $28,508.00
A061: Big Wing and Sun Roof: $29,161.00

STi $31,545
EVO AOO $$28,508
Savings = $3037

..that may be the case, but it was a helluva lot easier to find a Subaru dealer willing to sell the STI at MSRP, than it was for the Evo. I lost count of the number of dealerships I tried in Northern Cali.

I generally dislike dealings with dealerships, but I now officially hate dealerships..

Considering overall evo looks hardly changed, or maybe its just me, i dont see how people can constantly say the Evo is hideous.

Comparing the Evo w/ High Spoiler to the Sti would look like this:

Evo
Base Price: $28,987
High Spoiler: $480
Destination: $595
Total: $30,062

Sti
Base Price: $30,995
Destination: $545
Total: $31,540

Difference: $1,478

To me that's not much of a difference to sway one way or another. I think it'll always boil down to personal preference. The best part of all of this is that dealers may have to lower prices to compete and that's always good news for potential customers.

..well if you wanna put it like that, there's a dealership in NY accepting orders for STIs at $400 over invoice maybe you should add that to your equation too?

This is simply MSRP vs MSRP, and I know someone actually pay 45g for an EVO...

Is jfh selling the Evos for under MSRP?
On the Mitsu website, the Evo with a big rear spoiler is $29467 + $595 = $30462.

That would be a difference between the STi of about $1000.

Evo with big spoiler and destination is 30062. BUT the true msrp isn't with the big spoiler..remember it's available at a lower price with the small spoiler. Taking true msrp's the difference is $2008 like BoxerSti said. If you want to start comparing each car similarly equipped then we will have to wait and see how much the dealer installed stereo option is for the Sti and add the big spoiler to the msrp of the Evo. After that the difference will probably still be over $2000. I think everyone figured the Sti would be a few thousand more than the Evo...so no big surprise. I never ever thought the Sti would be over 32k.

Check your math. It should be $30062 like KK posted.

Quick question while we are debating the MSRP's of the STi and Evo, will Subaru pull the quick one like Mitsu did with the wing? Wherein they lead everyone to believe that the MSRP will be 28,987 with a standard high wing and then charge for it. Are there any potential additional costs to the STi like that or do we not yet have enough information? I hope they do not. I will still probably buy an Evo even though my dealer is making it VERY difficult for me to remain faithful. It will probably only take a couple more excuses before I jump ship and go with Subaru.
