Pleaes pick up the newest motor trend. The braking specs on that car are UNREAL for how heavy it is. Also Motor Trend ran it 12.7 @ 116 (and it was the photographer who was driving) I had my doubts before about handling and braking but right now its beating the GTO and charger SRT8 by a LONG shot. If you can go get the newest motor trend its a great read. Oh and the gt2 article in there is to die for.

That car is to heavy. Plus dealer mark ups. Better off buying a GT and and spending the difference on performance upgrades.

Yeh they did the same thing to the C6 Z06 R&T ran a 12..2 @118 I think some of the test drivers they use are in queation

I've seen Stock Z's runnin as low as 11.5 @ 127mph.

Wow only .87 G's around the skidpad? They were saying 1 G+ before...this is a dissapointment...now I'll tell my friend he doesn't have to trade in his new GT and just mod it instead.

yea...I am a huge fan of cobra's and for the money...I would rather buy a vette....ford definitely needed to make this gt500 a lot meaner...were talking all around street machine. The sad part is...it reminds me of the rest of the 5000 ton grocerygetter/musclecar wannabes...WAKE UP FORD!!! stop ruining the legend!

I bet we will see some cobras trapping closer to 120 once people take them to the track...

I imagined this car for so much more. Like I said, 13.1@112mph is pretty slow, and more realistic times for this car will probably be mid 12s@114-116MPH. When I think of this, E55 AMG comes to mind. But before specs and test numbers were released for the GT500 I imagined this car playing with Vipers, 911 Turbos, and the new M3, the E55 AMG never even entered my thoughts.

Reality- The E55 AMG and Shelby GT500 is most likely a driver's race.

Don't get me wrong, this car is still a kick *** bang for the buck and will be a monster indeed, I just had higher hopes for this car, I thought this car could potentialy be the best production Mustang ever and Ford failed. Sure it is still a great car, but it could have been so much more and really wouldn't have been to difficult to achieve this either.

Also please don't take offense to my comment, but how in the world could you support Ford and their heavy *** GT500, I'm in shock you could see any good from that. I understand you own a GTO, but American sport cars are becoming grossly overweight and there is nothing great about it. I don't give a f*ck if it ran 11s (which it won't, not stock) 4,000lbs!!!!! WHY????? Come on Ford, there was no way around adding 300lbs to this car, seriously!!!! Please, it's just f*ckin' pathetic that Ford didn't put in the time and money to make this car into what it should have been the baddest Mustang ever.

The more I think about this car, the more pissed off I get. GMC like Ford is seeing their control of the market slip. Still I atleast give GMC credit for f*ckin' trying! They are trying to turn things around, they are trying new designs, new platforms, new models, and new techniques. They are atleast putting the time, money, and effort into cars we have the highest of hopes for. They are not afraid to admit defeat go back to the drawing board, example of this is the GTO failure, yes failure! But the GTO will be back and probably better than ever.

Ford on the other hand is just a sad *** company that is becoming it's own worst enemy. How many freakin' times is the Ford going to absolutely disappoint! I call how I see it, and the Shelby GT500 is a straight slap in the face for any Cobra enthusiast. We all had such high hopes, and in my opinion Ford didn't EVEN F*CKIN' try to meet these expectations. Ford as a company is very serious trouble, more so than GMC, because they are not even trying to turn their sh*t around.

They need to kill the fat pig now!! SVT polled all of the current Cobra owners and the three overwhelming wants were:

1. Give back the damn solid rear.
2. Don't add anymore weight
3. Give us the 5.4L

Well I guess Ford thought 2 out of three wasn't bad, but when you add 400+ lbs that is ridiculous especially with the weiner tires that are fitted on the rear.

The biggest issue is the thing already has a solid rear which is what 03-04 cobra owners would add to drop 125lbs over the stock IRS. There is hardly any weight to take out of this thing.

Will have to see what the aftermarket and new owners do. It's funny the new Z06 is heralded as awesome, because it is, on just about every car forum. Already the fat pig of a new Shelby Cobra is being slammed on every forum because it is a!! FAT PIG!! That doesn't handle, brake, or accelerate the way it should because it is a freaking land whale.

I'm done Ford blew it!

Oh i am not offended and by no means am i saying this car is godly however for the weight, the handling specs so far are impressive. Now talking about adding weight, we all own evos here and we all know what evolution means. If you don't think the evo put on lots of weight since it first came out your nuts. With that said the weight is a downside yes, but when you are able to make it work you really can't say its bad. I think for WHAT IT IS, its impressive. Please read the Motor Trend article and you will see the difference in times and specs.

The problem with building a $40,000 Mustang is you have to meet the NVH expectations of someone that can afford a $40,000 Mustang. What we accept in an EVO won't fly in a $40k Mustang and all those features add a weight. Also, they have experimented with the low weight track cars in the past and they didn't sell well. The hope for Mustang fans is that Ford will now build a track spec car and knock off 300 or 400 pounds, 500 would be a dream.
