Disappointed with the Shelby GT500
If this car is high 40's on the factory MSRP, people may shy away from the car with huge markups. This car isn't worth 60 grand. And if the reviews are less than stellar and a bit dissappointing, getting one at near sticker might be a possiblity in 6 months time from when it's released.
But with so few being made, the rich folks will want one just to have one, and the prices will be inflated no matter how dissappointing some reviews may be.

I was disappointed when I saw someone pay a ridiculous amount for one at a Barrett-Jackson auction on Speed Channel. They were not selling the actual car, but the right to own one of the first off the assembly line. The car they had on stage was just a look-a-like. I am not sure of the exact price paid, but it was way over $100k, might have been over $200k.

Finally, what import would you cross shop with a Cobra? There really isn't one that is similar for the cost. The G35 is a great coupe, but it can't do what the Cobra can. The M3 is there performance wise, but you pay a bunch more for it. The car's competition is the Corvette and not much else. Again, the car isn't for me, but you guys are foolish to underestimate its appeal and success.
I took a look at the July 06 issue of Car and Driver and it did 12.9 at 112 mph. I am thinking that with ~500 hp that car should be trapping at ~119-121 mph in the 1/4. Ford need to explain where the extra mustangs are hiding. Some horses are missing....

The Mustang isn't for me, but I can assure you there will be plenty of people waiting in line to pay sticker for these and you can't say that about the EVO.

You say Mustangs sell 2 to 1 to EVOs, actually it's probably like 10 to 1, but then again the Mustang is mass produced and sold in an affordable V6 version which happends to be the bulk of the sales. The EVO is a limited production vehicle. Last year they sold about 80,000 Mustangs, they don't even make 10,000 EVOs to sale, so how could you compare the two like that.
Also am sorry but I don't expect anybody to be lining up to buy a $40K+ Mustang anytime soon, especially when the sales for Mustangs period are down 11.6% from last year. Will the GT500 sale, of course it will, but please don't exagerrate with images of loyal Mustang fans lining the streets waiting to get a shot at buying this overweight pig. The 60s are long gone, welcome to the now.
The whole point of the argument is that the GT500 while still a great buy, could have been an incredible buy if Ford would have atleast tried. I'm sorry be ignorant or not, but Ford is not the company it use to be, and in my opinion it's not even trying to get back there. Better stick to trucks, because it's becoming almost non existent with cars.
