It's not the horses that are missing, it's the driver mod that's missing by some of these magazine drivers. Apparently some guys did get decent numbers out of it:

Unfortunately, because of it's weight, it will never run what most people think it should. It's too bad Ford couldn't keep it's weight reasonable.

I think it is being compared to the wrong vehicles. Put it up against an SRT8 from either dodge or chrysler or the GTO and it looks much more in line all around.

Dam,
Bone stock I ran 13.01 @ 106. in my IX.
Ford needs to trim that fat boy. 500 hp to go slow is sad.

Oh my bad, guess we can't all be perfect can we. And the Shelby GT500 won't sale two to one to the EVO because they only plan to produce and sale 8,000 to 10,000 a year, I wouldn't be shocked if they had trouble trying to find 8,000 to 10,000 customers. Initially the cars will go decently fast, but I expect it to really cool down either the second model year or the end of the first year. It's happend before with the GTO and the Thunderbird, two other heavyweights that had a high anticipation level and eventually fizzled away (and will fizzle away) for the time being. $45,000 for a GT500 is hard to swallow.

The end of the Cobra may just be around the corner, SVT is gone as is a lot of the vehicles. It's just a matter of time for the Cobra/GT500 and this heavyweight car sure won't help. Don't get me wrong, I expect the Cobra to return one day, but it's days for now are numbered.

You have the wrong idea though. It was initially a contender with the corvette and well, a 4000 lb 500 hp car or the Z06's 500hp with 3100 lbs? The cobra isn't going to be putting down amazing times at the (sp?) Neureburg. Also, if the car was made to compete like it initially was, there would be competition for Evos as the new Z06 is amazing.

I'm saying look at the price point, size, and performance figures. The Shelby is more in line with an SRT8 than a Z06. Whether it was originally billed as a Z06 contender or not.

I am not sure of the exact price paid, but it was way over $100k, might have been over $200k.

I think the $$ for that auction went to charity... so it was for a good cause.

Umm, Evan Smith ran a 12.2 with a 2.17 60' BONE STOCK!!!!!!!! Yeah, this car is fast.

With a set of drag radials and a 1.9 60' this car will go 11.8 with just 2 tires as mods. Throw on an ET street and you're talkin' 11.6-11.7 WITH JUST 2 TIRES. A pulley and catback and the car will go 11.3-11.4. I don't understand why people are complaining.

The car is a couple hundred pounds too heavy, but who cares....it's a street car -- a very fast street car. Just me, these cars will dominate the street.

One thing for sure, it's one of the sharpest looking cars on the road. I've owned Mustangs and I now drive a Subaru. If I drove my Subaru anything like the way I drove my Mustang it wouldn't last a week!

Yes he ran a 12.2@117+ the secret is that this car has 331 gears with a set of $189.00 410 gears this car will run 11's bone stock on street tires I am willing to bet with some drag radials and or slicks mid 11's and upgrage the supercharger pully exhaust and intake 10's are in the future with out ever pulling a valvecover off the car . I am thinking of ordering one..(.ha ha )

The only "retro" car I like is the Ford GT. Perhaps if they make the Shelby Cobra instead of the GT500 they would sell more
