Due to the new testing SAE methods:

2007 STi: 293-hp @ 6000rpm & 290 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm
2006 STi: 300-hp @ 6000rpm & 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm

2007 WRX: 224-hp @ 5600rpm & 226 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm
2006 WRX: 230-hp @ 5600rpm & 235 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm

 

I knew it! We dynoed the cars for the last two comparisons we did and the STi's were always low, sometimes lower than the Evo, which it shouldn't have been. It's about time they came clean.

Finally the truth comes out! Who where they kidding? I use to stomp on STI's when I was stock and they had a boost controller and exhaust...Still wasnt a race...lol.

I don't think it is an actual decrease in hp, just different testing method.

 

Anyone know how the Evo rates under the new standards?

 

Theres a new HP rating system, which is why you'll see other cars rated lower as well, everything is ~ 7hp lower than what they were the year before basically.

 

maybe they are adding load to the power measurements, think dynojet vs dyno dynamics or mustang. obviously its not an at the wheels measurement but still a little closer to what you would actually be putting down.

 

I actually think that many GM vehicles went UP in power with the new methods...

 

Actually this is not entirely true. Most of the cars that saw a drop in their advertised HP were imports. Even the Camry got hit by it. However many domestic cars actually saw an increase in their HP numbers under the new standard. The Z06 for instance, got rated 5hp higher than originally intended... hence why it has 505hp, instead of the even 500hp the old system would have netted them. The Saturn Ion, and Chevy Cobalt also got a HP bump as well, from 140hp to 145hp. The Soltice and Sky also got bumped 7hp, if you compare the new and old literature, you'll see at first it was rated 170hp, but then later got re-rated at 177hp.

Boost controller and no engine managment that's why there were so slow. With those mods the car pulls timing like crazy. But hey a win is a win .
