RX-8 Maybe?

I'm selling my SRT and initially planned on getting an EVO but maintinence costs and extra coin over other cars may shy me away so I am considering all options, I drove an RX-8 before, it was sweet both in handling and drive fun even though it lacked *****, the interior is amazing looking and the rear seats are awsome to have when you need then, I sat in them and it's a comfy cockpit for the passenger, the car looks great and has hids too. I just heard some have horrible gas mileage issues, where they are getting 12-14mpg, or have transmission issues but some are just fine, crap shoot? What do you all think of the car, I know it won the hearts of car and driver vs the 350z and s2000.

That is the biggest POS car made today.
It doesnt make the hp mazda claimed it to make.
Better keep a trunk full of extra oil cause youll need to add some every time you get gas.
Maintanence is the same as any other car for the evo....

Could you elaborate a little more.. like why is it a piece of ****? is it because of the rotary motor and it sucks working on it, is it because the car is unreliable as can be... would like to hear some specifics...

because we probably have replaced 12 engines for low compression
once out of warranty parts are extremely expensive

Engine flooding.

And the 13b gets mileage worse then the turbo-charged Evolution.

I also thought of a 97-98 C5 Corvette. 80-90k can be had for $17-18k but I doubt I'd get financed for 5 years on a car that old, also I didn't know how well those vettes hold up that old and that mileage

The 'Vettes are pretty reliable - I know of many with well over 100k miles. I wouldn't write off the RX8 though. Come over to miata.net and ask about them, a lot of members own them and they are pretty unbiased.

why dont you just keep your srt-4, that would be my second choice in a car, even though it is a neon... it still a very nice car.

problem with rotaries are if you don't maintain them, they'll bite you in the neck. Though the renesis engine is somewhat better than the 13B just because of the side exhaust ports (which reduces power) But oh well. Bottom line is:

cheap, fast, reliable... pick 2.

i worked at a mitsu/mazda dealer... trust me.. id rather get a 3rd gen FD than that rx-8.. they are nice looking in/out but thats about it.. if you want awd but cant afford an evo.. get a wrx, they are fun cars.. i personally think the 02-03's look good and the 04-05' look great.. the 06's.. not so much as the other 2 but still cool...
