one of the things that turn me away from the GTO is that rear traction sucks. At the quarter mile track here we have florida GTO's which come here to battle with georgia GTO's and all i can say is that they sound awesome and are fast but getting out of the hole they suck! the rear end squats and the rear wheels hop. I'm sure theres remedies for the traction issues. But the airbag not deploying is kinda scary too although are we really sure the airbags will deploy with any car?

As for air bags, there are sensors somewhere on the front of the car. There is always some possibility of a frontal accident and missing the sensor itself. Thereby, it'll not deploy. It does happen more often than anticipated.

Love mine... getting the TT soon. Got rid of the spoiler, shaved the emblems... stock rims with 275s in the rear.

Sleeper from hell after my TT install

I had a 2005 M6 GTO. I had a Volant intake, American Racing catless Long Tube Headers, Corsa Sports exhaust, Phillips 4300K HID, and GMM Race Ripshift. Dyno tuned to mid 360 hp/tq from AZ Power and Sound. It was a great car, nice interior, never had any problems, wish I didn't have to give it up. I miss it for a comfy daily.

I would get the 2005+ not the 2004 for the extra power if you can.

if your going to get a gto, get an 06. there are SOME issues with them. but nothing to major. once you hit the 40-50k mark it will rattle an shake like everyone other GM vehicle ( I worked for GM for 6 years, I would know )

like said above, if your looking for a DD, its alright I gas ( just stay off the gas )
if your looking for a straight line car, get the gto an turbo it ( look into these, I have this on my 02 Z06 http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/ )
if your looking for a auto x etc car, get an evo.

btw you thought installing a turbo upgrade on a evo was hard? look at this

GTO's are like a cheaper mix of a m3 and camaro
Strait line fast like a camaro and nice interior like an m3, handling like a camaro. Don't think they will handle well. BIG 3800lbs and the biggest tires you can fit is 245 front and 275....lots of traction problems and handling problems with that much weight and little tires. Great engine, and nice interiors. Cheap mods make lots of power.
Back to taking notes in class lol

Check Top Gears power laps. The GTO was about 2 seconds faster than the M3.

In one episode, Clarkson said it was more fun to drive than a EVO.

I picked up by '05 black/black M6 GTO last week with 19,000 miles on it and absolutely love it. I had my '04 Evo for 2 years before trading it in on the Hummer H3. That only lasted a year before I wanted my speed back and picked up the GTO. I know this is the wrong place to say this, but I like my GTO much better than my Evo. I was in my mid 20's and it was time to grow up and get out of the little car with a big wing and big exhaust...now I have a nice looking car with a LS2 rumble.

If you're looking at getting a used GTO (since all the new M6's are gone), get the '05 or '06...you get the LS2, hood scoops and dual exhaust.

my co-worker had (2) GTO's lemon-law'd back due to "electrical gremlins". He's on his third one now. His cars have all been stock and they are fun to drive when they're not in getting service.

Last weekend we took a drive from Dallas, TX to Joplin, MO (320 miles each way). The GTO calculates your average MPG (it's got a few cool little things on it) and it was stuck on 25mpg with some "spirited" driving on the highway and leaving tollways.
