Anyone have a Pontiac GTO?

I was thinking about getting one. (2004 GTO, 6mt, with 18,717 miles).
But before I do anything I'm trying to get as much info about them as I can.

So I was wondering if anyone one on the site might have some info or even have one?

I was just wondering...

How reliable are they?

Did you have the front strut problem?

If so what corrections were made?

Thanks!

Really. That's a good sign.

Like I mentioned I'm just trying to get as much info as possible. I saw some news article about the front struts and I was worried about it. I've been in talks with dealers about a used 04 GTO, and another dealer about a used 06 EVO 9.

The prices are a huge difference. (Total and monthly)

The only good thing is that since I have only 1.5 years left on my current car theyed pay it off, and even give me a little on the trade side.

Any more info would be a great help.

Thanks!

is it the 5.7 liter GTO or the 6.0? The LS1 would be great for boost, and the LS2 would be great for all motor mods. Both cars are NASTY with just a few bolt ons

I'd say go for the GTO if payments on the Evo 9 is a little high. I test drove the GTO and I must say I was impressed. I don't really like how it looks, but the power was smooth and there was plenty of torque. A lot better for daily driving compared to the Evos.

Considering gas is over $3 a gallon. Do you really want a big gas hog motor as your daily driver?

Also gotta remember that if you go with the evo your gas mileage wont be any better, i beleive those 5.7's arnt as thirsty as our turbocharged 4bangers.

FWIW , this and the evo were my top two picks for a new car last year . Having owned 4 mitsu turbo cars picking the evo wasn't hard . I did seriously consider the GTO , but researched a LOT of potential problems with the GTO that scared me off . The overwhelming push of dealers to sell the GTO , like it had the plague and they wanted it off the lots (whether new or used) . The NTSA webpage with official consumer complaints pertaining to the GTO : bad struts , airbags not deploying , engine/trans leaking issues . Complaints on many consumer webpages as well . I drove 3 GTO's and really liked the interior , the torque and the sound of course . The looks are bland at best , but good as a sleeper and not a cop magnet . Not the best handling , the rear suspension dates from the late 80's . The gas mileage was a little scary as well . Do what is best for you , I'm sure the haters will have fun with this , don't pay them no mind ! Ultimately I picked the evo because of the 4 doors (toddler) , decent mileage , capable snow manners and my history with the 4G63 . I grew up a small block chevy kid so I like both cars . Good Luck !!

why would you say that?. if you turbo a 6.0. isn't it better? because there is more displacement..

From what I understand, the 6.0 is kind of like a bored and stroked 5.7, which means its going to have less meat left in the block and possibly not quite as strong. Internals for the 5.7 are a good but cheaper from what I have heard so building it for FI turns out to be more economical then with the 6.0. And once you strap on two GT35's (for instance) you aren't going to miss .3L of displacement, but will appreciate the possible extra strength.

The ls2 defiantely gets significantly worse mileage then the ls1..but modding the ls2 is so easy.

These cars get creat gas mileage when cruising.. better then the evo actuallly, but around town I get about 13mpg with the LS2
