1,500 Stateside R35 GTR's
You tried beat down all my points FastCoEvo, but despite all that, its is your opinion, and you brought up the most major point:
An 80k Nissan is a hard sell to anyone who doesn't know what it is,and I hope they do sell everyone and benefit from this venture.
Many people DON'T know what a GTR is, especially your typical 30 something yuppie who hears about the next greatest thing-----a Nissan?
Those who do, understand why the past vehicles were great, why the RB25/36 WAS a great motor and so on and marvel in the heritage. Thats very important to me, so don't knock it. I'd buy an R34 given the chance in a heartbeat. Hard buy though.
Regardless of where the car has been, and where its going-its a profound statement by Nissan, that they've still got it.
I hope to see as many cars as possible being modified, but again-I think the hard sell is going to keep them out of many hands who WOULD do such things to an 80k car.
If I have the money, I'd tear that damn thing down to the frame rails and back up again. The Top Secret concept looks amazing, but I may only be able to afford the car and have to nickle and dime my way to more power.
We'll see.

1,500 per year isn't that bad at all. I would think that's about the number of 911 Turbos imported each year? Besides, I'm sure Nissan will step up production numbers if the GTR starts selling like hotcakes.
I wonder how heavily I will mod the GTR if I do decide to get one. Definitely some parts for the exterior and a new set of wheels. Power wise, I may just leave it stock or add some simple bolt-ons and a flash? The car should be well past 500HP at that point, and that would be more than enough for me. You have to realize that not everybody wants a 800HP monster. The stock numbers of 480HP is already highly impressive. I don't know about your Evo, but my old Evo did not put down 480HP and it got me in trouble on quite a few occasions.

Thats a really good point about the 800hp monster. I'd want one....but IDK if I'd head towards it.
After checking out the new "Tiburon" replacement, I took a stroll through upcoming RWD platforms....apparently Nissan is thinking about the Silvia replacement. It'd be cool........
I would imagine that they are going to up the production numbers of the GTR....and I guess 1500 isn't as bad as it seems after some thought, as I realized that the 80k Nissan price is both going to turn off people who just can't afford it, and Porsche wannabes aren't going to buy an 80k Nissan just because it bests the turbo around the 'Ring
Just the same, I've driven a Porsche for an evening....a good friend lent me his 97 Boxster. It was a POS as far as Im concerned, there are much better cars, that are quicker and nicer for the money.
But....the club I took it to, regardless of it being a "girls Porsche" all the girls wanted the car, and took me as a package deal. HAHAHA.
Anyways, I figure a guy who wants performance and looks, a Porsche. ANyone who is content with his manhood and can appreciate how awesome the GTR is, will buy one, but Im sure they will be around. I hope.

OMG man. Stop living in the past. This is the present. If Nissan put all of that time and money into the car, and it made less hp than the regular C5 it would be a joke to everyone. Car enthusiast or not.
You act like performance shops arent going to be getting their hands on the car and doing things to them. I see tons of 30 something year olds drivign around in Zo6's and see plenty of video;s on streetfire of modded ZO6's street racing.
If people want the car, they will get one. Who do you think is putting deposits down on them btw? A bunch of 50 year old men who have been dying to get thier hands on a car they probably never heard of in their lives? IM going to go out on a limb here and say no. It's probably the hard core Skyline Enthusiasts who only got to drive it in Video games 15 years ago, and finally have made some success for themselves, and have the capability to actually purchase one.
I love the GTR. But to anyone who doesnt know the heritage, and history behind the car. Its a hard sell. Most people with that much money arent going to be looking straight to a Nissan to spend 80k are they?
. You keep bringing up how indestructible the RB motor was and yada yada. WHo cares about that car or motor? OLD NEWS. This is 2007 going on 2008. You have NO idea what this motor is going to be capable of doing. It already comes with more standard Hp than the r34 did even if it was underrated from the factory it wasnt THAT underrated.
Lastly. You keep referring to the old skyline as a tuner car. I have a news flash for you. Most average people that live in Japan cant afford a car period, let alone one that costs as much as they R332, 33, and 34 did new. So even to its country of origin it was a seriously priced sports car.

I love the new GTR! It has super car horsepower (480) and incredible 0-60 times (3.5 seconds) quarter mile in the mid elevens. AND THE PRICE IS 30,000 LESS THAN THE PORSCHE 911 TURBO!!!!! This is Japan's equivalent to the corvette, and personally ive always been a fan of cars that perform great...not to mention its bang for the buck!

That may explain why 911 Turbo prices have become a tad more reasonable lately, especially in the used markets. It's now possible to find one without markups, which is really tempting.
