Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
I also thought about buying a X myself. But my mind changed after I saw a lowered 2013 Impreza Hatchback, the luxury of extra space in the rear and awd + great mpg could not be beaten. I was sold, it's as simple as that.
Personally I love my X. However I have been thinking about buying a ix and building it and to use my x as a daily. My x is still a lot of fun though, and if you dont really plan on doing any mods to it then it gets decent gas mileage if you care about that. If you can afford it, and all the maintence, dont forget insurance either, then go for it. i mean why wouldnt you want to have two evo's sitting next to each other in the garage/driveway?
I used to own an evo ix gsr when I lived in CT, I bought it after owning an '06 sti (with ringland failure). Before moving to CA I sold my ix and it was left completely stock through out my ownership. I loved the way the car drove, the suspension felt very tight, the acceleration was amazing for stock, and the top end power was impressive.
I recently bought an '11 GSR with the sight and sound package (HID's, and Rockford Fosgate), Nav, and OE aero kit. The car looks great with the kit, the suspension feels just as good as the ix gsr but this thing has super all wheel control with ayc so the way that the power is distributed it feels as if the car is clawing at the pavement it goes in any direction without hesitation. I didn't really push the ix in CT the way I'm able to in CA with the hills we have around here but in the snow the ix was a beast.
The ix is definitely more exciting to drive than the x, but I bought the x because of all the features it has as well as having the newest drivetrain technology, the torque vectoring is very clever, and it makes an outstanding daily driver. The ix is a bare minimals type of car, I used to drive to NYC from CT and it never gave me any problems in terms of being uncomfortable, my *** never fell asleep or anything. With the features that are included in my model x it makes long drives even more comfortable than the ix (the recaro's in the x are the best seats you can find in a car under $40k), I love the fuse hands free phone setup the calls are pretty clear, the sound system is pretty awesome for stock, the bluetooth connectivity is seamless, and the HID's are incredible.
The main areas that need improvement with the x are the acceleration, the top end feels sluggish, unlike the ix, it has a flat spot around 5k and then it feels like the variable valve timing is adjusted at 6k because theres a tiny increase in acceleration. This isn't a huge deal considering the car weighs significantly more than the ix, and the power can always be increased. Another thing the steering wheel on the x doesn't have the same focused feel the ix has, the hand grips at 10 and 2 are nonexistent on the x, but this can be easily resolved by swapping in a custom wheel. Overall I love the x, and if you're still wondering if you should buy one you need to figure out what you want out of a car.

I don't need a second car, but if I were to go with a reasonable DD in this day and age (assuming we're talking about getting something new) that could theoretically replace the Evo's utility (meaning it has four doors and a trunk) while being fun in more in more than one way to drive, I'd consider picking up a 2015 WRX or leasing a 2015 GTI.
I agree with that, but mainly because I find the 5speed in the X completely miserable. I'm thinking over my wife having the IX MR and me a X MR when the '15 is released. But then, my true goals are a 100% dedicated track car. Can't turn the IX into that because it's so clean and stock with really low miles. Ugh

I've thought about doing the same but being in the military I move around alot so i'm looking for a truck so I can tow my evo around, partly because I don't want to daily drive the evo anymore and risk curbing my TE37s lol
That's how I feel about my car, haha... except mine just hit 75k a week ago
I wouldn't say it's come a long way... the X has pretty much been 95% the same since the 2008 model, and has been on sale for seven years (compared to the VIII and IX collectively being sold for four years and seeing far more updates). For those in the market for a X, it's not hard to find one, and it won't be hard for a while... but that applies to any fun car produced in those kinds of numbers but went out of production.

If your in need of a daily I think the x is a good idea. It's a great all around car. You can make any "bad financial decision" sound good with a little self convincing.
Beater VIIIs that don't look like they were dropped out of an airplane are way overpriced right now. I sold my IX way too low back in the day. I guess it's best to stick with one Evo.
There's a white 2013 X at the Kia dealership I pass going to and from work. It's a white MR (32k miles holy crap). I have to say, it looks beautiful. The more I see other Evos, the more I really love them in white. I will say, well done stance on a white X with the right wheel/tire combo looks very good. But then I see a video or pictures of an 8 or a 9, like the 1084hp white Evo English Racing did recently, and man I really love the 8/9 body style better. My friend Shawn has a 700+hp blue X down in Nashville. He has a great wheel/tire combo and stance and his car is mean as hell. His engine bay is very nice. BUT, a clean well done 8-9 engine bay still looks better IMO than the X. Like others have said, visually I've tried to love the X's but I just can't quite get all the way there. Unless I owned one. Then I'd love it. Kind of like if you have an ugly baby. If it's yours, you love it. If it belongs to someone else, you find flaws in it haha
