ive been thinking about getting a X, havent test driven one yet, but after what chaotichoax said i think im definitly gonna stick with my IX. im 6'1", and a comfortable ride is huge for me. I'd still love to drive a X though just to be able to see the differences

Been thinking the same thing, but pretty much decided against it. I've sat in an X, but never driven it; as far as I can see it's a nicer place to sit and the auto box makes it easier in traffic, but actually, I really don't mind the IX's interior; then again, for me windows and a roof are luxury, having ridden bikes for so long.

Also, I have done tack sessions alongside X's before. My IX is pretty stock, but on most straights, the X's couldn't quite keep up. Well, and some X owners have told me the VIII and IX are just that little bit sharper on turn-in, but I can't confirm that myself.

I think ever generation's got its upsides, and I'm not going to make claims about which is best, but I'm not sure I could personally accept even a slight drop in speed or sharpness for extra comfort. And I like shifting gears, even if it is a bit slower.

Definitely night and day difference from my VIII to a X. Have driven multiple VIII's, IX's, and a few X's in different stages of modification and completely stock. Have to say that I enjoyed the X in stock form and would rock it as a DD, at least for a little while. Acceleration, handling, and ride were all much nicer on the X compared to the others, seats felt better too.

Can't say much in terms of how a X performs against these cars, never stacked them up side-by-side. But, that being said I'd pick any of them without hesitation.

Bleh.... I far far prefer the IXs to the X. I would never willingly get rid of my IX, and frankly the X isn't even on my list of cars I would want.

i have both, completely different cars. Its all about what you want out of the car. the IX is def more raw and fun, the X makes for a much better DD.

I've considered that. But I've allready invested too much into My ix and don't want to start all over again and plus I like how My ix looks.

Honestly, at first I was fine with my decision and was happy to have a quiet, more luxurious evo. Well, it got boring quick and I soon found myself missing the rawness, loudness, and econobox feel of my IX. (I had a IX MR btw)

The X handles like a dream and can fit some bad *** wheel sizes. I still think the X looks faster sitting still and has some incredible lines. Unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me after a few months. I had the X lowered and sitting on some Enkei RPF-1's. One of the worst attributes of the X is your peripheral vision. I felt very limited in what I could see in the X. You sit very low and the window edges are very high. It was difficult to get used to and I never fully trusted the mirrors.

I also could never get comfortable. In my IX, I would rest my left elbow on my driver's side door panel. In the X, the steering wheel is too far forward with a comfortable seating position. I'm 6' tall just as a heads up. My arm had to be relatively straight to hold the wheel so my elbow couldn't reach the door panel. THIS BOTHERED THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF ME. Silly yes, but it's true. Having a trunk the size of a shoe box also was not very accommodating. I made it work but compared to the CT9A trunk, it sucked.

My IX was the loudest thing on the block and I loved it. My buddy macPSU has an equally loud X and it's equally bad *** sounding but it just wasn't for me. So rather than try to compensate and try and make the X like my IX, I decided to sell it while it was still relatively stock.

Currently, I am on the hunt for a VIII to make my own. CT9A is my Evo of choice.
all this is true, but it's a little different for me.

the armrest thing wasn't that annoying for me because the armrest on the door in the IX was made out of such uncomfortable material that it hurt my elbow to rest there anyway. I contracted what I called "EVO Elbow." I'd never had problems with my elbow popping, or aching when i worked out or anything until I bought that car. I'd always rested my left arm on the door while driving, and had never had an issue before. my brother had a 2005 Lancer Ralliart at the time, and he developed the same condition. since buying the X, the condition has cleared up. his cleared up after he made the swap from the POS lancer to a BMW 330Xi as well lol

I'm 6'4", and my arm is long enough to rest on the door though, but It's still more comfortable to rest it on my leg. Another thing I like is the extra leg room up front. on long road trips if I put the seat all the way back, I can actually stretch my legs completely out, let the cruise control roll, and it basically feels like i'm stretched out on the sofa.

as for the getting comfortable...also true. the steering column on the X is just too short. it puts you in an awkward position. The visability is also worse than the IX slightly...i remember having to get used to the mirrors in my IX after coming out of my 2000 honda accord because the IX mirrors were shorter. well the X mirrors are even shorter than that! kind of ridiculous, but I've pretty much gotten used to it.

the other thing is the interior materials don't seem to like armor all without some massaging of the armor all into the material. that's a bit annoying because the only thing worse than a dry dash is one with an uneven coat of armor all. i can live with that though.

honestly, the rest of the car is great. I like the seats more, I like the hands free, I like the sound system a lot more (and I only have the basic ****), i like being able to connect my iPhone FINALLY. I like the cruise control. I love the handling. The acceleration sucks, but that's because it's stock. I got used to having 360-370whp on tap at any time, and power as low as 1500rpm. once this one gets back to that level, I think i'll like this one as much or more than I ever liked my IX.

And as for the SST....love it. I love technology, and the SST is a great transmission. I keep it in manual, s-sport mode 99.9% of the time. I like being in control of my gears, but I don't miss the clutch pedal. If anyone is thinking of making the switch, I'd say do it. the only thing I couldn't do is go from a 6 speed to a 5 speed. if you've got an MR now, the only choice for me was the SST...and I just wanted the SST anyway.

One thing I do miss, but it's not a direct result of the swap, more of the package...I miss the high speed stability of having the big wing. I may look at adding it later. As everyone knows I've always been a big fan of the EVO with a wing, but my SE didn't come with one, and I don't think it looks bad without it. So we'll see. As for me, so far so good with the swap.

I guess I will make one comment on the livability aspect:

I bought a JDM bezel ($50 bucks), custom hvac relocation (~150), and a double din dvd/nav set up (your choice) - I used a z120bt, so blue tooth hands free, navigation, dvd, on and on all work in my car.. even the sound itself is better. the only thing among those that i notice not having is cruise control, which i have gotten used to I guess.

For anyone who's actually gone back from X to IX and misses the handling/oversteer, they should really look into a rear diff and there's one stickied in the powertrain section of the Evo 1-9 forums

The things is miss from my 8 are the seats and the throttle response. The leg bolsters are way to narrow don't know how someone wider than me could even fit in these seats. The throttle response is fixable, I think but seems pricey. I love the sst and can't wait to see how these things can be tuned and modded. Glad I made the switch and am adjusting with an open mind.

thanks for the insight guys. My IX is basically bone stock. Has 18 ROTA P45's, Comp stage 2 clutch kit, Some kind of 3in Downpipe, and yesterday i just relized i have a APS duel venting BOV. I love the way this car looks and feels. I have never been in or driven an X. I really don't care about the performance of the X as much as the fact that its more suitable as DD. my IX not so much. The seats suck for long distance drives further then 20miles or so and my back hurts. I might consider keeping the IX and then grabbin up the X when i get some extra money. I def like the idea of the MR with the SST for city driving. This is my main concern since I will be moving to Seattle and dealing with stop and go traffic daily. Not too fun for a manual IMO. I want to keep myself in an EVO no matter what but need something practical for commuting for work. But on a second note i would love to keep the IX and make it a track car only.
