Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
Evo IX to X?
So im considering selling my IX MR and picking up the X. Anyone make this transition? If so I would like to know your thoughts, likes, dislikes, and suggestions.
Honestly, at first I was fine with my decision and was happy to have a quiet, more luxurious evo. Well, it got boring quick and I soon found myself missing the rawness, loudness, and econobox feel of my IX. (I had a IX MR btw)
The X handles like a dream and can fit some bad *** wheel sizes. I still think the X looks faster sitting still and has some incredible lines. Unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me after a few months. I had the X lowered and sitting on some Enkei RPF-1's. One of the worst attributes of the X is your peripheral vision. I felt very limited in what I could see in the X. You sit very low and the window edges are very high. It was difficult to get used to and I never fully trusted the mirrors.
I also could never get comfortable. In my IX, I would rest my left elbow on my driver's side door panel. In the X, the steering wheel is too far forward with a comfortable seating position. I'm 6' tall just as a heads up. My arm had to be relatively straight to hold the wheel so my elbow couldn't reach the door panel. THIS BOTHERED THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF ME. Silly yes, but it's true. Having a trunk the size of a shoe box also was not very accommodating. I made it work but compared to the CT9A trunk, it sucked.
My IX was the loudest thing on the block and I loved it. My buddy macPSU has an equally loud X and it's equally bad *** sounding but it just wasn't for me. So rather than try to compensate and try and make the X like my IX, I decided to sell it while it was still relatively stock.
Currently, I am on the hunt for a VIII to make my own. CT9A is my Evo of choice.

I wish I did. I sold it to my buddy. He kept it for 3 months and then put it on ebay. I tried to find the owner but couldn't. Car had some many unique parts on it. You'd think someone would look at the front bumper and wonder wtf is going on here.
interesting points to put out for peeps looking to make the switch.... especially when very few people can actually drive a friend's car that would show us what we wont like in the long run...
I am also on the fence whether to get a X or just keep my IX. I put out a feeler for my IX but only will sell it if I get a reasonable offer. My IX is stock engine wise.
Anyhow... I agree with Chaotix... man the X has some nice lines and can fit some super juicy meaty wheels and tires.... ahhhhhh decisions decisions...
height wont be a problem for me... I am short... well alot shorter than you guys. I am 5'8" on a good day.
The only X I would get would have to be a WW.

i want a X and plan on buying one after my deployment, but i would never sell my "8.5" ever ever ever ever!
i only want the X to DD, not looking for a track monster and i think its a perfect DD

I owned an X for 2 years until I traded it in for a BMW and just last week I sold my BMW and picked up an 05 GSR w/ SSL.
My 8 is by far the more "raw" car making you feel the road as you drive on it. The X was a lot more subtle, BUT handled more like my BMW. Kind of like a RWD feeling. I prefer the actual seats in my X to my 8, but the seating position was too low and the steering wheel badly needed a telescoping feature. The drive-by-wire throttle will drive you nuts. I hated it the first time I drove the X and I hated it when I traded it in. Was I able to live with it, of course. But, it was a downfall in my opinion.
In my opinion, the X is a more grown-up car. It gives back with a little more creature features, but rewards with a stiffer, better handling chassis. Once you add bolt-ons or just even a flash with no other mods, it becomes a totally different car.
