Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
I'm 6.2. 195lb. I think the X is a good fit to my size. I remember those threads when everybody was complaining about the VIII and IX about the same thing LOL.
For dd the X is definitely better car. Rawness and so on is a dead horse.
Pick the X if you like a nice DD otherwise keep the IX no reason to spend unnecessary money. Both is an evo with a very similar performance which is very easy to over come even with a right tire choice

Same problem last year. Could not give up my 8 so picked up X for DD an keep the 8 for fun and mods/track duty.
There will never be such a raw car, just like the Schrick guy from DMax tv once said "...the Evo 8 is a car build for racing from the factory, take off the stickers, put on some cheap carpet and some hvac controls and sell it to the public, there is nothing like it". He is so right.
If u can afford to keep your 8 or 9 never sell u will regret it.

Booth are great cars. I really like the IX but drove an X and it is in fact more daily friendly apart for mpg that are not as economical as the IX. But if your going to buy an economical car you just don't buy an evolution.
Got back in my 8 after the X drive..... Fu$& this is old, this is dated, theres much more noise, but you know what? So much more fun and that's perfect to me.

been chewing on this bone myself for awhile. If it wasn't for the fact that I just had a brand new act hd clutch and flywheel combo put in and got new tires and 60k maintenance done not even 2000 miles ago for my VIII I would have looked into getting one more seriously. If I can find a good deal on a X and get a good trade in value for my evo I might be changing over.
Althooo if mitsubishi is really going to produce the evo's into 2013 I could have my current evo paid off in aprox 2 years or so and keep my 8 for fun and geta x for dd. . . . . decisions decisions.

yeah I just dumped new breaks, rotors, tires, belts, plugs, fluids and a gasket kit into my evo 9...hard to part with something u just fixed up so dramatically. I want the X for its DD value so I decided once this one is payed off Im gonna keep in the garage for track use and mods, then pick up the X to use for DD. the value of Evo's in general will go up now that they won't be produced anymore IMO.
I gave up my IX for the X, very true points about being different cars. Both have it's strong and weak points. Interior wise though, I would rather have a cheap basic interior, than one that looks nice but in the end is really cheap from the X.
Arm rest of the door was solved getting the leather door panels, it actually gives me just enough arm room for me.
I do remember that when I first drove the X, I could feel the extra weight with the stock suspension, although I did substantial road course time with my EVO IX. Haven't tracked the X yet.
Appearance wise, I do believe the X looks more finished and it's nice having a good choice in wheels without having to do much to fenders. The EVO IX and STI's all run into this issue.

The biggest issue is that the X wasn't an improvement over the IX, it just wasn't. They put it in a cleaner package, but that's about it. The biggest improvement IMHO is Cruise Control!!!
If they gave it a true evolution, like 350HP, a proper 6 speed, hell maybe even a 2.2, something. But they didn't.

the X Chassis is stronger and the S-AYC is amazing
it handles and brakes better then a IX despite it being heavier.
I own a IX...but I respect the X although I am still unhappy about them adding so much weight with unnecessary things
Of all my cars, the IX is the closest to my RS when it comes to fun. I've driven the X but didn't like the heavy feel of it. With the IX you really feel like you're flying when your moving fast because it's sooooo light. Steering, weight, handling, it's just a nimble car. Twitchy at times but so much fun. The interior is crap. It's bad to the point I'd say it's dismal. The windshield is huge compared to newer cars and you feel like it's something from the 80's so I understand why people upgrade. But for pure fun, the IX > X.

I've had lots of Evos, and I like the X better than the CT9A cars. I do think the IX will be the one to have bought 20 years down the line if you are keeping a special stock car covered in a garage, but Evos are meant to be driven!
That said, the X just shines. Seating position has a lot to do with your size. I am 6'1", but have a pretty long torso, so I fit perfectly.
Anyone that says an X is more luxury has either not driven one or is clearly off their rocker. Better stereo and headlights? Yes, but its still a loud econobox where all the money spent is in the right places: the performance bits. It is unfortunate that the X is 250 pounds heavier, which makes for a shorter final drive, but that's the only place I can ding it. It handles much better, can tend toward oversteer when committing, spools lots faster, and holds power up top better due to the new engine with Mivec on both sides. The seats are also a ton more grippy and aren't fattened for American drivers.
There are certainly a few things I miss about the CT9A chassis, but I would not go back knowing what I do now.
If any of you haven't driven one, do yourself a favor: Stop pretending and go experience it for yourself so you have a workable opinion instead of internet rehash.
