Reading the replies, I'm reminded of this thread featuring Evo owners in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Herein lies the difference between car guys and poseurs who want to look like them. I wonder which of those folks gives a flying fruck about his image in the eyes of some mislead individual. FWIW, I'll be 45 next month.

Also, BMW is sick.
I'm sure at least half fall into this category.

I personally loved my Evo. I still miss it on occasion but, I came to a realization. For a daily driver the Evo just wasn't what I wanted anymore.
  • It drew way too much unwanted attention. While it may be a rarity for idiots who want to race to see an Evo, most Evo drivers get to see them everyday and it gets old. I bought my car for my enjoyment and it has nothing to do with street racing.

  • It was honestly more performance than I could enjoy even semi-responsibly on the street. To feel like you are doing something behind the wheel you are usually doubling the speed limit and I never take it to the track for one reason or another. That being said the 335 isn't too much better in this respect but, you don't have to be driving the ***** off it to enjoy it.

  • It got a little old not being able to run the A/C at red lights if I planned on either not launching or taking longer than a civic to get up to speed. A/C is pretty much a necessity here.

  • I wanted a bit more luxury and gadgets along with the ability to take rides longer than 3 hours with out my ears ringing when i get to where I'm going and wasn't willing to pay almost what I would for a BMW for a X.

  • Of all the "luxury" cars I looked at the BMW is the only one that offered an acceptable level of driving enjoyment vs. refinement.

  • After 4 years it was also just time for a change.

Plug-and-Play Harness
(no wire cutting!)

Performance (91-93 Octane):
0-60mph in 4.4 seconds (est.)
¼ mile 12.7s @ 111mph

Performance (100 Octane):
0-60mph in 4.3 seconds (est.)
¼ mile 12.5s @ 113mph

Installation difficulty:
Novice

Estimated Installation Time:
30-45 mins

Price:
$1295 Vishnu PROcede

also, if you're talking about the price difference between the two, they're exactly the same ($40k). the evo X already has an additional $5k markup on it so it comes out to $40k before tax and license. i love my evo8 but mitsubishi's warranty really sucks. i had to pay for my own clutch change a month after i got the car, when they said they'd take care of it when i bought the car (adressed during purchase). even with warranty, i have to pay for my own brakes, oil, and i'm not sure if the tranny is considered wear and tear also. and i just paid $400 for my 30k mile service last week.
..........with bmw, pretty much all you have to pay for is tires.

so in conclusion, the BMW 135i/335i is a damn better bang for buck!.....IMO

BTW....AWD Audi S5 vs RWD BMW 335i

and if awd is your thing, the 335xi is already out too.

The only problem is at that point you are pretty much done. No turbo upgrades as of yet (multiple obstacles), the 25% "it's a BMW" mod mark up and BMW has gone out of their way to make the car mod unfriendly.

here was a recent dyno of a BMW335i. From looking at it the evo still is the better bang for the buck. The BMW135I would be a lot less power.

The 135i has the exact same motor in it, so it would be the same power. And if that dyno is stock it looks like the BMW is quite a bit underrated.

About Evo for a BMW:
I think that everyone's correct! I'm in my 50's. I have been from one position to another. Finally I have 2 cars. I plan to keep my Evo to my late 60's and give it to my son. I am in a professional field and I thinks this car is for all!
Just one more; I have never ever had any negative response from driving the Evo. Unlike when I had my very status cars, which a couple had been keyed. Good luck to all!

You have no idea what you are talking about. The 135 is the same driveline and tuning as the 335 in smaller lighter package. They make the same power.

As far as bang for the goes the VIII/IX were hard to argue with but, since they are out of production and the X is now approaching the 135 and 335 in price that is kind of a mute point.

The problem with the 135 is that since it is the "cool new" they don't discount them muchand the backseat is pretty much useless IMO. I got my 335 coupe for less than what I could have got a similarly equipped 135 for by using European delivery.

Same kind of deal -- sort of.
my lawyer is amazing and he drives a Ducatti crotch rocket....which to me is just the same as having an evo to drive to work.

Very good responses, I agree with everyone's reply on why to make the switch. I can see myself already getting tires of my evo. Well, I am tired, It's just my race car now, I don't drive it on the street anymore

The only BMW I would consider buying is the 135i, but I would rather have an Evo X because I don't want to be associated with the many douches that drive BMWs and Evos are cheaper to make faster. The Evo X is also better looking than any of the current BMWs in my opinion. I think the 135i has the potential to destroy the Evo X if it comes with a LSD, though.

I have a professional job and dont give 2 craps what people think.

However I would definately step into a BMW if I could afford one and likely will in time to come. BMW stands behind thier product and treat you like a king when your there for what ever reason. As does Acura.

The cars are 1000 time more comfortable then an EVO and look great to boot

Because some people don't like daily driving loud cars with a stiff ride and crap interior every day. Just with bolt-ons, and suspension upgrades, my Evo 9 feels like an amazing performance machine, but I can never safely use that performance on the street.

I don't care about the image. I will agree that a lot of people that drive M cars are douche bags. But for a daily driver, I would much rather have a nice mix of luxury/sport, instead of an all out hardcore performance car like the Evo.
