sti test drive
it is the JDM spec suspension, its just thrown off by the heavier 2.5 liter. It is not however the Spec C suspension, that has different springs, they are availible at rallispec.com, and according to the reviews they correct the car's understeer considerably.
I have no doubt the STi would be sweet with a REALLY stiff suspension. It feels like the damping is good, it just needs some really stiff springs and anti-roll bars. Even though the tranny felt sloppy in the gates, it is a 6-speed and it felt super-strong. The gauges were much better than the Evo, but the seats felt like a Mustang or something - too wide and unsupportive. I don't think the STi is all bad. I would like one, too. However, given only one car, I had to take the Evo. I have nothing against the STi or its owners - just morons who think I am just singing the party line.

First of all, you should have read more reviews, but aside from that you proved my point. The mags that picked Evo did it on such intangibles as steering, or braking "feel" which is not the same as the actual performance.
"I knew a power deficit was a lot easier to overcome than any handling deficit."
Again, what deficit? A more versatile suspension that equals the Evo in actual performance.
"I am slapping STis now with about $2500 in power adds - ironically about the same amount of money an STi owner would spend on the absent radio and higher sticker of an STi. "
Great, you spent $2500 to equal an STi's acceleration, and we've already established that they actually handle near identically, so you spent money and voided your warranty just to be equal to an STi. Now, to equal a stock radio is what, $500. How much will it take for you to get front LSD's, auto a/c, air filtration, cool gauges, a shift light/buzzer, cruise control, a hieght adjustable seat, decent fabric, and side impact air bags?

If you had taken the time to read my later post, I noted the things I do like about the STi. Now go to bed happy that you bought an STi. Good boy...
You brought up the lack of radio in STi, and the cost to replace it, I was just mentioning all the items the STi includes which are at least as important to a performance car as a radio. Just think of that $2500 you spent if you put it in an STi. All the items mentioned above, now easily around 350hp, and if you just don't feel comfortable with the STi's dynamics (though you would be amazed when you learn to let the car lean, and put the hammer down and the front end pulls like crazy to the exit) you could bolt in a different sway bar front or back or maybe some stiff coils then imagine...oh well. OK, OK, I'll ease up, I can see you shot your load, I just get a little annoyed when I hear things like suspension "flaw", I love this baby.
Chris in HB, please quit feeding the trolls.
The STi is so sweet and so awesome. It handles just as well as the Evo. It's so special. It has so many gadgets. It's so beautiful. It's so fast. It's even faster than the SRT4. Its interior is really special. The gauges are so sweet. It's wing and scoop are so pretty. It has so much mod potential. It's so fun. Oh, and I can't forget that it handles just as well as the Evo.

omg, cruise control! no way man. Thats what I want! stupid evo.
oh and I couldn't resist..... about 85 - 90 % of every review I've read comparing these two cars (i've read a ton of them) has picked the evo over the sti (don't forget the maxim reveiw that picked the STI, that really hurt us EVO guys
). Chris is absolutely correct about that. HP and straight away speed is where the STI beats the evo (most reviews), but in everything else its all EVO. Sure things vary from review to review, but most agree that the EVO is the better performing car. No one is knocking the STI so quit being so defensive. Silly troll, I'd suggest you catch up on your reviews before you get yourself embarassed again

Anyhow. Let's get this straight, they are both great cars. Now, regardless of how much I am against magazine racing, the evo has beaten the STi in everything BUT acceleration in almost ALL of the magazine publications that have put the two cars against each other. .5+- g's on the skid pad and 3-4 mph on the slalom is enough for me to pick the Evo over the STi. And, the Evo has proven itself worth in 0-60 and 1/4 acceleration by sometimes matching the STi (yes there are a variety of factors that affect that outcome).
That said, quality in the STi is better. Hands down.

Hey STi sycophants (look that up, troll) - put this in your pipe and smoke it:

and here's an evo owner who traded in for an STi. it is personal preference people. These cars have similar handling charecteristics, EVO is better i know, and similar engines, with more power; torque in the STi. This argument is getting old. If you really need to prove to yourself that your car is better go autocross it in the AS category of SCCA.
