I'm probably coming late to the game, but I'll tell you guys anyway.
I had a deposit down on an STi until about 3 days before I picked up my Evo. Reasons? I like sunroofs, I like revving to 8k and beyond and I'd need done up heads if I were doing that in the STi, I knew I was going to be modding it right away and I'm better off in the Evo for that, I hated the hood scoop, I personally like the Evo interior (simple, but with GREAT seats), I got the Evo for invoice, I could go on and on...

It's not all cherries though, there are times when I wish the top end gearing was better (we need SOMETHING between 4th and 5th), when the ride was a little bit softer or I wish I had something like DCCD to mess around with, but all that goes out the window when I blast through the esses at the Glen or Madness at Mid Ohio. ;-)

Bottom line, each car has its own strong points and weak points and I'm willing to concede to that. Am I sorry I got an Evo? No way, this is the most rewarding car I've driven, period. Of course, I was driving Audi's for a while, so there goes that argument. ;-)

The STi is a cool *** ride and I wave to not only the DSM crew, but everyone I see in a WRX or STi. I'm a car enthusiast, not an Evo or STi elitist. Play nice, boys. We're all on the same side here.

I got the Evo and my friend got the Sti. We are still friends! Anyway, I really like the differential control, it will be fun for him this winter. Not that I wont be powersliding every chance I get. Thats the only thing good about snow.

I'm in the market as well.

I haven't even looked at the STi. Reasons why:

Higher price
Don't like the hood scoop
Can't stand the rear wing. It looks tacked on and ugly. The Evo's cf rear wing fits the lines of the car perfectly.
Don't much care for the boxer engine sound

I like the Evo a lot.

Also the nice seats and sunroof is nice.

Things I don't like:

It's a Mitsubishi. That's the only thing I don't like about it. It'll have crappy resale value, it has some build quality and dealership service issues, and they're all related to it being a Mitsubishi.

If I can get over buying a $30k Mitsubishi, the Evo8 will be my next car. I'm almost there.

Probably going to wait to the spring to see what the 04 model offers and to save up a little more money for insurance and mods.

Also like the 04 s2000 but really want a more practical car and more performance and especially a turbo.

Oh another dislike but not really an issue - the intercooler sprayer. Total gimmick. I don't need that crap. I'd rather they spent that money on cruise control.

and here's an evo owner who traded in for an STi. it is personal preference people.
wow, reading that makes me even more sure the Evo is the right choice as it is apparently a more "no compromises" performance vehicle. The seats, the suspension. That's what I WANT in a performance car. Yes, cruise control would be nice, but his other gripes are pointless. I can replace guage backgrounds to make the gauges look better. He actually sounds uncertain in the end, like he's not sure he made the right choice and is trying to convince himself he likes the STi more.
