Importing cars

I have been trying to figure out how I can get a car imported from japan... from what I have read so far... I don't understand lol.
i have been looking into a 1994 GTR. I know that I will not have to worry about installing OBD2 since the car is before 96. but what els would I need to change on it or since its a 94 could I just import it and get it to pass emissions. It would not be my dd just a show/fun car. any links or information is greatly appreciated... been searching forever and my head hurts lol.
Thanx in advance everyone

its sad there is no real reason... mostly they prolly dont want our money being spent over seas. They say its because they dont meet the same safety requirements, but alot of cars from the early 90s that they sold here suck with that. the other thing is emissions ... ha they dont count that on classic muscle cars lol or diesel trucks/cars... its gay.

dude this has been covered so many times , there are places that specialize in importing cars over here and helping you get them registered, granted its not cheap, but if you have the money save yourself the headache and go that route

Look for one that is already in the US. Ebay, craigslist, maybe a car broker.

i have done alot of looking into importing a car from the u.k. back to the states. Im currently stationed in germany and i have the oppurtunity to get my hands on alot of good cars for cheap like a evo fq360 for around 15k, but to get the vehicle over to the states the fees are outrages. You have to get the vehicle approved through the NHTSA then it also has to go through the EPA your lookin of fees around 20k at least thats what all the importers have told me. I wouldnt even try a skylince because you have to structually modify the body of the car to get it approved for street use. Its a very retarded process and theres even reports from some of the importers that when the vehicle is all done its just not the same anymore granted once it is a street legal vehicle you could probably go back and remodify it back to Japan specs but thats just more work and money to shell out.

Strip the car to a bare shell(no engine, trans, tires, lights, anything) import the shell and parts in different containers. As car parts it does not need EPA or NHTSA/DOT approval to get through customs. Reassemble as Kit car/specail constucted vehicle, there has been a big crack down on Skylines in the US so it may get seized anyway. Or import as a fully built race car caged and stripped and get exemptions through EPA and NHTSA/DOT and it will never be road legal and NHTSA only allow temp exemption for up to 5 years if its not a manufacurer built race car(ie. Comp. Viper or Lotus Cup car).

Because what you described is illegal. The only way to own a Skyline is find a legal Motorex R33 that is already here.
