Damn a C6 Z06 to a GT 500. I have a lot of respect for the GT 500's but a C6 Z06 is just a different animal.

Well, at least you can say you've owned 9 of the most popular sports cars around. Now you just need an s2k and you'll be set haha!

Did they upgrade the suspension on the newer ones?
Jeremy Clarkson from top gear did a special on a bunch of american cars and at one point he does the mustang.
IIRC he did the GT500 and the Roush mustang, while the GT500 had more power the Roush beat it on the track because it had a better suspension and braking system.

No argument here. You are exactly right about that.
But to put it into perspective, I put 9,000 miles on my Z06 in a full two year period of time. That's 375 miles a month or only 13 miles a day on average. I've had the Mustang for three weeks now. It has 1,400 miles on it. That's 67miles a day on average. So I get considerably more fun driving in every day versus mainly weekend errand driving and driving the Honda Pilot on weekdays, which is what I had to do when I had the Z06.

It doesn't hurt to try them all.

Still need to own a Viper and an M3.......yes, I think that will just about do it.

I just saw that video the other day. The comparisons were pretty laughable as far as the American cars versus the European cars. It had its entertainment value but that was just about it. I don't remember what year that came out. I want to say that it was the 2007-2009 model. Less power and definitely worse handling on those cars. The current GT500 has more horses and better handling/suspension. The current Roush is a great car also. They need to make the Stage 3 for the 2011. You can currently only get a Stage 2 for 2011. No power upgrades on the Stage 2, just handling and looks.

Excellent point.

Enjoy your new beast.

He wanted to race but I had the whole family in the car and already knew what the outcome would be, barring any missed shifts. Oh well, maybe I'll have an extra 200 or so HP to mess with within the next year or so. Like I said earlier in this thread, modding is cheap for these cars compared to most.
Hey Carlos, how's the AMG treating you. I know that you got rid of your Z06 for many of the same reasons. Hope things are going well.
As far as how much these things are going for......the MSRP for the convertible with the electronics and SVT packages was approx. $60,500. Once you consider what tney gave me for trade in versus what my Z06 was actually worth, I guess I got the car for $5,000 under MSRP. Not bad considering they wanted $5,000 over MSRP and another local dealership was asking $10,000 over MSRP for the coupes they had.
60K for a new Mustang is silly. Seriously should have looked at an M5, even a 1 year old M5 and that sucker moves and is a much better family car and sports car in every way.

Considered the M3 before. Test drove one and liked it but ended up getting the Z06 instead at that time. Plenty of power in the M5 and of course the luxury is there. You're right that it would be a better family car, but I was not looking for a family car, just one that could seat four people. As far as being a better sports car, I'm not sure what the 1/4 mile times are for the M5 so I can't comment on that. I know that the top speed would be quite a bit more, but I'll probably not hit the current limited top speed on the GT500 even on a track. I can't believe that the handling would be any better on the M5, as a matter of fact I would think that the skidpad/slalom numbers wouldn't be as good as the GT500's, but once again I don't have the numbers in front of me. Free service for 3 years on the BMW is good, but after that service would be a b#tch. Modifications are outrageous for BMW products because they know that if you can afford the car you'll pay top dollar for the mods. Factor in the much higher premium on the M5 convertible and it just didn't seem worth it to me. To each their own though.

Thanks
James

Oh, and please let me know where I can get a new (or even 1 year old) BMW M5 convertible for 60K. Actually, if you can even find me a new M3 convertible at that price, I'll be there. I would turn that sucker around for a profit in a heartbeat.
