VERT? You got me, no M5 verts. Ruins the structural integrity of the car and handling not to mention more weight. Originally Posted by jmsrx

Bunch of 08's for much less then 60K.

Closest thing BMW has is an M6 Vert, they are more though. You would have to get an 07 to keep under the price.

just throw on a kenne bell and you'll be all set! BTW kennebell introduced some new superchargers for the gt500 that are now liquid cooled!

The M5 would run circles around the Mustang in any handling contest. The weight is proper and balanced and the suspension is light years ahead. 7 Speed Automated gear box for quick never missed shifts and can get the power down much nicer. They trap at 117MPH in the 1/4 Mile Stock.Originally Posted by jmsrx
Considered the M3 before. Test drove one and liked it but ended up getting the Z06 instead at that time. Plenty of power in the M5 and of course the luxury is there. You're right that it would be a better family car, but I was not looking for a family car, just one that could seat four people. As far as being a better sports car, I'm not sure what the 1/4 mile times are for the M5 so I can't comment on that. I know that the top speed would be quite a bit more, but I'll probably not hit the current limited top speed on the GT500 even on a track. I can't believe that the handling would be any better on the M5, as a matter of fact I would think that the skidpad/slalom numbers wouldn't be as good as the GT500's, but once again I don't have the numbers in front of me. Free service for 3 years on the BMW is good, but after that service would be a b#tch. Modifications are outrageous for BMW products because they know that if you can afford the car you'll pay top dollar for the mods. Factor in the much higher premium on the M5 convertible and it just didn't seem worth it to me. To each their own though. Thanks

Wonder at how much WHP the structural integrity of the convertible comes into question??? But all and all I'm still jealous

btw fwiw my uncle has a 07 gt500 with a bassani x pipe with high flow cats, and catback and is one of the most gnarly sounding exhausts I've heard.... Definately worth the extra coin over a flowmaster or magnaflow. You just never get to hear a lot of mustangs with bassani exhausts because of the higher pricing over its competitors.

R&T just did a comparison test between the GT500 with the SVT package and the Corvette Grand Sport. The GT500 won the comparison though that does not really concern me. I was rather shocked that it did (very subjective on the comparisons though). The numbers that caught my eye were 1.00 g on the skidpad and 69.6mph through the slalom (the Vette only managed 0.96g on the skidpad though it did manage 70.7mph through the slalom). R&T actually praised the handling of the GT500 with the SVT package. The GT500 trapped a 118.9mph in the 1/4 though it took it 12.6 sec to get there. That's actually worse than the last magazine test I saw for the 2011 were it managed 12.23 sec in the 1/4 mile. You are right that the vert gives up alot of stiffness to the coupe, but I have given up trying to make it to any track on a regular basis. The only non-dragstrip track close to me is about a 2 hour drive, so I weighed the fun of the vert for the family versus the fact that I rarely could make it to the track. Once again, I can't fault anyone for liking the BMW M series, though I would definitely go for an M3 before an M5. I still believe that the price on these vehicles is out of my range, at least for something new and with warranty.Originally Posted by High_PSI

The latest GT500 is the best handling Mustang since the 2000 Cobra R for certain. I would certainly believe that on the track the live rear axle will be fine on a smooth surface but I would imagine it would dance around on anything but. It is truly amazing what Ford did with the handling recently (New Mustang GT matches the New M3 around a track, huge win for the Mustang).
I may have to look at the New GT. The Mustang is my favorite sounding car.

Not sure if you've seen the most recent issue...but they did a similar comparo of the new GT and the new M3. Pretty darn shocking how close it was, very shocking in fact. Ford definitely did their homework putting together the new Mustang.Originally Posted by jmsrx

And BTW, the color combo you went with is absolutely awesome in person. The car just oozes mean.

The sound is pretty awesome. It surprises me every time. Had the top down on the ride home today and was driving down the highway. Came up on a concrete barrier along the side of the highway and for a second I wondered "who the hell is coming up on me quick with a mean sounding car". I realized it was me with some extra echo against the concrete. Originally Posted by High_PSI

You are right that the car can be a little twitchy under moderate to hard acceleration on bumpy roads. Wheelhop is a concern. But American cars have surprised me lately. I always used to say that I would never own a Vette because it was all power and no handling. Then they came out with the C6 Z06 and I loved it. I also used to say that I would never own a Mustang for the same reasons, but starting in 2010 Ford really stepped up on the handling. I'm impressed for what it is, a 3800 pound car that can take you around the track without much complaint. It will never have the luxury of the BMW's though, but then again you don't have to pay for the luxury.
