IS300 - 4g63 swap build

I will start from the beginning. My name is Jusitn, and I own an IS300 that is currently getting a 4g63 engine. I am performing 99% of the work since I am the head technician at a performance shop in Atlanta GA (Batlground Motorsports). The engine setup is an evo 8 block mated to a 2g dsm head. The engine is getting a 100mm crank, eagle rods, and ross 9:1 pistons. The head is getting evo 8 valves, and BC valves and retainers. The cams have not been purchased yet. Turbo is a garrett 35r, and the car will be powered on e85 via an AEM EMS. The manifolds have not been made yet. Also I do not have a transmission, but that is going to be a t56 out of an ls1 camaro. The bellhousing will be made by bill hincher, but he has not released one for the evo block yet. The car will be used 90% on track, but it will remain tagged and insured, for weekend drives. The body kit is a wald with 1" flares. I might be going wider, as well as possibly a chopped top. I am going to do some track testing with a friends ls1 IS300 to see if wider will be needed. Currently it fits 18x9.5 +25 on all corners, with 265 series tires. After this event I will know if I want to go wider or not. Brakes and suspension will be done after all the fabrication f
or the engine is completed. Also the entire car will be painted during this ordeal. Here are the pics:

facing #1 cyl the evo exhaust manifold is on the right, while the dsm puts it on the left. The blocks are virtually the same, except mainly the bellhousing bolt pattern. There is also the fact that the dsm blocks like to crankwalk. My reasoning for this setup is to have all the turbo stuff on the opposite side of the steering column for ease of fitment, and the not crankwalk prone block. If you were to swap heads like this in an evo, the exhaust would be on the firewall, and the intake would be near the radiator.

While I'm a big fan of the 4g63, (as well as a lot of work I see come from Batlground I might add), I'm a little surprised to see you ditched the factory 2J, considering how easy it is to make power on it. Still, looking forward to watching the progress on this.

Started making the dry sump pan. It is approx 1/4" thick aluminum.

The slope is to catch the oil as the crankshaft naturally slings it that way. There will be 2 big fittings on the larger side that go into the dry sump pump, as well as 1 more pickup on the valve cover.

The flat part is for clearance against the steering rack, that is an example of how far back I pan on putting the engine

Thank you for the kind words. The reason for ditching the 2jz is weight. It is near impossible to shove a 2jz that far back, plus it is just super heavy.

cam position is on the front, evo valvetrain swaps, plus it puts the exhaust away from the steering shaft. It is almost identical to the evo head, just opposite sides for intake and exhaust.

Really interesting and unique to say the least. Also I'd reconsider using those Eagle rods. Some get lucky with them but it's not worth the hassle if they fail. GL with the swap.

why didnt you go with a 6-bolt 1G block and 2G head really cheap and can be found easley. Also they are a proven combo to make lots of power if built right.

no its not, what makes the evo 4g63 more powerful is the head and the parts used for it. Evo head flows a lot more than the DSM head, bigger ports and some parts of the valve train are made from a special material to keep the mass down and durabile. You might want to do some more researching before putting this engine together. Yes a bare block is the same but internals and everything else is not.

I have never had any problems with eagles. What have you heard/had happen?

That would blow up. I am using a 6speed from a 1997-2002 Camaro with a v8.

That's why I am running the latest dsm head, then ported, with evo valves, and upgraded springs. I haven't decided about lifters and rockers yet. (debating on a solid lifter head) I am not trying to break any records, just make 650whp or so.
