So I got started on the engine mounts today. Since the engine will be completely behind the front subframe, I have to fabricate something for the engine to mount to. The idea is to get 3" angle iron, cut and weld it to the chassis. Then I can make the mounts that bolt to the engine, bolt to my tabs that I welded onto the car. So far I have the brackets welded onto the car, with a little support brace so they should not bend.

Material cut out, the perimeter of the holes will get welded to the chassis.

Chassis side engine mounts finished, except drilling the holes where the block side will mount at.

So there is a 4g63 in my engine bay supported by my engine mounts. This is the final resting place for it.

The list of what is done is less than a tenth of the to do list, and I already can't count how many hours I have spent on this car.

Anyways, I put on a spare head and cut some more. The firewall is almost completely removed for now.

Justin,

Finally we see some progress on this car. i have seen you consider SEVERAL different set ups. I think the last time we spoke you were on a message board from New Zealand as you were looking into the 3sge... This is more work but may payoff in th effect of availability of parts here in the states and an already boost friendly motor set. keep up the updates...

^^ yeah, I have been through several setups. I actually bought then sold the 3sge because getting parts to build the engine and transmission were just too much. Now that the engine and transmission are decided, I will just change my mind on the little things until I get it finished one day.

So I have started working on my intake manifold. I took a stock 1g dsm intake manifold, and cut it in half. The runners will work fine, but the oem plenum was just too small. Now I am cutting off the extra sections to make it look nicer. But here are the progress pics so far.

Weight distrbution is the biggest reason for where I mounted the engine. I want to point out that the back of the engine is directly below the windshield, so it is not shoved into the interior much. It just looks so crazy because how long the engine bay is from the factory, plus it is moved back approx 12" with my firewall modifications. The class I want to run the car in allows for firewall modification. The last reason, and probably the most important is the fact that I have gone a little crazy with every aspect of the car. I just enjoy working on it, so more work is just more time.

Im not sure how I missed this thread from the start.

Ive always loved the IS300. Definitely looking forward to seeing the outcome with the 4G63, its about time different engines were used in these things.
