From Evo to C5 Z06!
From Evo to C5 Z06!
Well, I've owned my Evo IX RS since June of 2013. Loved every minute with it (besides when 2 MAP turbos blew within about 6 months of each other). I had no idea what to get when leaving the Evo world since this car is year-round the best automobile to have at the price point. Have always loved the older C5Z's and looked into them - found a stunning example which was 100% stock, female owned with 10k original miles. Just drove it back from Milwaukee last night. It is so wildly different from the Evo that it is hard to compare....super long gears, totally different powerband etc. I love the Z06 but the Evo will always have a special place in my heart since this Evo brought me to my girlfriend whom I just moved in with (she has a '11 X GSR). Hope you guys enjoy the pics. I know I sure as hell enjoyed the ride back!
I'll have an Evo again soon and I will probably always be on here snooping around for the right one.
Hope you guys all have a great summer!
Eric

haha. i had two MAP turbos die within 100 miles of each other. *boom* fresh rebuild *boom*. LOL.
i think a Z06 would be a ton of fun, but no way i can own my Evo AND a 'Vette. and no way in hell does the Evo go for one LOL. coincidentally, i've driven the C5 Z06 and Evo IX (both stock) back to back and it's actually what made me decide i wanted an Evo.
plus, i think with the Z06, i'd have to go full race car. that's another project haha. as a daily, it's not for me.

if i found one in that good of shape, i would have found a way to jump on it too. how could you not??
i'm not sure how that leaf spring works so well, but it does. but when i buddy of mine swapped to coilovers we found out just how heavy it is. still not bad, though, if you decide to leave it. since you're not building a race car and all. stock height is also reasonable, if i remember right?
and yes! that over drive gear is the bomb. no doubt. i think 30mpg HWY or so, yeah?

As of right now, I'm in love with how the car rides. The car does sit a little high - its odd though, the ratio of gap in the wheelwells vs the total clearance doesnt make sense. I MIGHT lower it maybe an inch or so, but I don't want to worry about rubbing on stuff all the time like I was with the Evo. If I tried to make it have minimal gap, the car would be like sitting on the ground, lol.
I think its rated at 28-29 MPG. When I cruised back from Milwaukee trying to baby it, I was right around there! Interesting thing though - in C5Z's they have this feature to avoid getting a gas-guzzler tax by making the car lockout of 2nd - it will directly shift from 1-4 when driving grandpa pace (has only happened to me once or twice since driving it). Its very weird. I guess it isn't hard to fix but I was like WTF when I got locked out of 2nd and it slid directly into 4th.

it's torquey enough to not be an issue, yeah?
