Actually I believe the entire Scion lineup is going to be erased off the face of the earth. That Matrix was suppose to be geared to me and countless others in my age group, but the only people I see driving them around town are seniors, guessed they liked the room. When I first heard of Scion, and how it is suppose to be the ultimate customizable car from the delearship, like that cool Harley bike; I'm like, okay this should be pretty cool. Until I saw a poor attempt at a Chevy Astrovan and a Chrysler PT Crusier. This is what's hot in Japan? (or my J-Pop manual is out of date) And it's from Toyota, the company we can thank for the sometimes cool, sometimes not, clear lense tailights AKA Altezzas (the Lexus IS300 is called the Toyota Altezza) and the sometimes bad, sometimes good triangular headlights (the Toyota Celica). Then I was releaved the Scion group was bringing a true car out, the tC, but I'll just have to wait and see more on the tC to pass judgement.
Also I'm just mad that a company that wants my money, will openly as part of its marketing gear an ugly product to me (just listen to the reps blab away at the auto shows on how 20 year olds will eat these Scions up "Oh the kids will just love it!").

They have good gas mileage, 1.5 liter engine. 32-38 MPG i think. Scions use the same engine as the Echo, another small and cheap economy car.

I hate to go against the flow but reading all these replies about how the xB is ugly... it makes me think of the many people that say our evos are ugly.

Just remember, everyone has their priorities and tastes.

The Japanese, particularly Toyota and Honda, have been missing a lot of marks. The Element was intended for Gen X/Yers; most are being bought by families or active couples who like it because it's so easy to clean. And what research group ever decided Altezza lights were desirable in the US?

I'd really like to know who the focus groups and studies are being done on, because it's obviously not the people that are actaully buying cars.

Croix,

I think I saw a preview of the Scion tC in the May issue of Sport Compact Car.

Personally I think the Scions are fugly little things....But to each his own..Really smart decision by toyota to bring the 'fridge over. My buddy who sells Toyota's said they're movin pretty well over there.

I personally love the Scion xB also known as the Toyota BB in Japan. However, in stock form, they are not quick. With the TRD modifications, they are somewhat better. Greddy has made a turbo kit for the car and with that particular kit, it is quite fast. I do prefer the Scion tC over the xB which is due out in June 2004.
