Talk like this makes me think I need to be a car salesman. I could be perfectly honest about whatever car I sell and tell customers how they stack up to the competition. It seems like the common trend these days is that car salesmen know precisely jack **** about their product. It's sad.

Maybe thats why so many kids with Civics, Neons and Sunfires think they can hang with the big boys if they slap a fart pipe on it. Between car salesmen and the movies, their perceptions have been warped beyond belief.

I went to lok at evo's and the ralliart for my wife the other day and the first salesman told us if you change the intak on the ralliart you will get 40 hp. I did all i could to keep from laughing at him. Next I was looking at the evo and a different salesmen was comparing it to the sti, say yea the sti is fast stock but if you get the chip from japan you will gain 80hp. I would think the the salesmen wouldn't exagerate so much, If i am going to buy a 30k car or any car for that matter I am going to do a lot of research pertaining to how well it respond to upgrade. I think the same for most evo owners.

The only thing the salesman is good for is fetching the keys for a test drive, they never know what the hell they are talking about and with the internet who needs them???
I agree with you compeltely...plus there *******s....well most of them. When i went to buy my EVO, i did everything myself, the loan, the interest rate, insurance cost, etc.... everything...the sales guy didnt do anything..he just gave me the test drive (after he check my credit report, becasue before that he denied) gave me all the paper stuff, i read them, sign it, and i was on my way with my new baby...plus he didnt know **** about the car...been a fan of the EVO for years, i knew what i was getting into, and knew everything about the car.

I agree to an extent. But we are enthusiasts. We always know what we want. But the truth is that the other 99% of the populace has almost no clue when it comes to buying a vehicle. They go in to a dealership because the big balloons out front say 'big sale'.

I do wish that every manufacturer had a 'direct to consumer' online outlet. I could then search, finance and take delivery of my car online...and have it shipped to my front door. That way if we choose to but out the BS'er middleman salesperson, we could.

SC~ who is not saying that all salespeople know nothing...there are quite a few knowledgeable salemen who frequent this site who seem to have their facts straight.

I agree, there are the few salesmen who know their stuff, but they are in the same minority as us enthusiast who know what we want without the BS, so the likely hood of finding one at a dealership is rare.

Other than real car enthusiasts/educated buyers, these car sales people do have their way with the ignorant customers. How else are they going to convince a potential car owner that he or she has the best car for their money?

It's sad but true. People do buy into the talk and not the walk.

Shoulda said.. "But then I'd own a Dodge.."

I was at an acura dealer some years ago and the salesman gave me the usual rhetoric and opened the hood of an Integra and pointed to the cam cover and said 'it's made out of metal' and waited for a response from me..

(fyi this was just before plastic covers)

yeah, so many salesmen are dumbasses........when I bought my Mazdaspeed and my SRT-4 I was educating the salesmen......I mean they didn't know that 2004's came with the LSD and stage 1 injectors and ****.........when I cooked an injector I took the SRT in for repair and they didn't have any in stock so they went to rip one off an SRT on the showroom floor.......they were about to get one from an 03 when I stopped them cuz the 04's got the bigger injectors from the Stage 1 kit......they actually didn't believe me (the mechanics!!!!) and had to call Dodge and verify what I told them.

If my job was to sell those cars I'd know every last nut and bolt on them.....aftermarket **** and everything.....hell, I know that about most cars now just from all the mags I subscribe to and the forums I read and I don't even sell cars. Dealerships are full of morons.

I got a similar comment from a salesman at Mitsubishi when I took my car in for service. The guys like "Yeah, its about time to change your car if its in service". Im like, I just bought the car 6 months ago genius, Im getting an oil change. Then he starts talking about how its a new car, and how its gonna die soon. I dont know much about sales, but I know enough where I wouldnt put down a product that I wanted to sell to a customer. "Yeah, this car sucks ***, you wanna buy it?"

Well the salesman does have a point there. Maybe "smoke" is a bit much of a word, cause the evo and sti go back and forth, but the STi is generally faster in a straight line. Also compared to the STi's new engine, the 4G63 is kinda old, but it most defenitely isn't old technology.

well i just quit my salesman job after two days . it was a dodge dealer also.I can't beleave all of the BS they where saying.my first day there, one guy was trying to sell me a srt-4, and wanted me to trade my evo in. the guy was telling how much of a better car the neon was.then i asked"what do you know about the evo?",and he said"first off, its a mitsubishi" i could of choked him out right there .but now i know how they work at dealerships.some of them make good money, but it wasn't worth selling out to be like them .

Good for you, John. Salesmen are jerkoffs. They will say anything to sell a car. That dude has some ***** to say a ****ing NEON is better than a race bred rally car. You saw them at the track last night. That modded SRT with hella sponsors and graphics all over the car could not get out of the 15s. yeah, he was a ****ty driver, but they are crap. their *** in the air, vague steering, torque steer, ****ty seats, FWD and still a neon with a turbo. The Evo is not a Lancer with a turbo. It's a totally different car except for the trunk lid, front door skins and dash. i like the SRTs for what they are: $20k, FWD, not a great handler. Let them prove they can last for many miles. The Evo has been around and has proven itself.
