I want to eventually build the car I'm going to get enough to get into the 11's, and that just isn't likely to happen with a FWD car. 500 whp to only get 12's is just tells me there's alot of wasted power, and a lot of money going in to getting expensive performance tires. AWD traction + 500 hp should get you into the 10's with a sub-3000 lb car.

If FWD was good enough, I would hold out and turbo my Spec V instead of planning to take a huge $$ hit and trade it for an EVO when I move down in a couple of years.

there's actually many people on the SRT forums in the 12's with not much other than an exhaust and intake and some drag rubber. Once Stage II comes out I think you'll see SRT-4's in the 11's on a pretty regular basis. One guy hit 12:04 not that long ago.

edit: I'm not a fan of drag racing so I could really give a crap less though....I'm a roadracing guy....I'll be spending my money on the coilovers cuz the stock power is fine for what I wanna do.

Drag slicks?

Well, that's the whole thing. I don't intend to go to the trouble of swapping tires all the time so that I can get the traction that I would have if I only went AWD in the first place. I want it to be ****-my-pants fast and handle on short notice, under any conditions, be it a sunny day at the track or 3 AM in the middle of a rainstorm from stoplight (in other words, ill-advised, suicidal conditions). I'm looking to minimize the probability of nasty surprises. AWD fits that bill far better than FWD, or RWD, for that matter.

I really appreciate the capabilities of the SRT-4, though. If I had to choose between that and my Spec V, I would go SRT-4 without a doubt. I certainly wouldn't fault anyone that chose to go with this car.

I'm glad it's out there, but it is still far less appealing to me than the EVO. Regardless of how good it is, the fact remains it only excels at one thing. The EVO is superior in terms of styling, proven reliability of the engine, handling, and acceleration, even if you do consider the value-per-dollar factor. And that is why my plans are for the EVO.

You have to admit that for $21K, it's really not bad. You really can't sneeze at manufacturer warrantied upgrades. The Stage III kit is promising 300/300 for what, $3000 maybe? Not too shabby for something the dealer will back.

It's not my cup of tea with all that FWD silliness, but a deal is a deal.

Though you have to wonder between the differences in currency, and the tariffs how much lower priced all imported cars could be. We're seeing the currency difference in full swing with anything from Europe (hence the recent price hikes from the luxury brands), but makes you wonder that without it if a WRX would be much closer matched in price. Food for thought.

i actually agree with the type-R thing...i'll take that over a srt-4 anyday...most of u say srt is fast on the straight...but wat happened to the overall balance of the car??? going fast in 1/4 mile really don't mean much...the ITR IMO is far more well made and balance car....handling, power, style, tuner friendly...but is just wat i think....if i have 20g....i'll probably spend it on a used ITR or a used WRX b4 i'll consider the srt-4

srt-4 is a great deal tho

An old HS buddy of mine recently purchased a 2k4 SRT4, and I must say, nothing compares to it in its price range. Most of you guy's are failing to understand that the majority of 20 year olds (who's mommies arent buying them cars), cannot afford 30k for an EVO plus the high insurance. The SRT4 is absolutly quick for 20k, and the motors have been around for a few years and have proven reliable. Also, do not forget that DSM's are not the most reliable cars themselves. Maybe the engines last, but the drivetrain does not. My HS friend's SRT4 runs 12's all day on the stock clutch. Cant say the same about an evolution. The handling and braking are not that bad either, torque steer in the 2k4's is nearly non-existant with the LSD. It has wayyy less torque steer than either of my eclipse's, even with with much more power in the neon.

His SRT-4 has even less torque steer than my TSX with a LSD. And one of the reasons why I bought the TSX is because of it's lack of torque steer.

To me it will always be a neon. A neon on steroids that is ridiculously fast for any buck, but a neon nonetheless. if only it was a better looking car. It just reminds me too much of an egg with a sick motor in it. oh well...

NOTE: The Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade Kits have not been emission certified or submitted to CARB for emissions exemption. Therefore, vehicles with Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade kits are intended for closed-course driving only.

doesnt that mean you cant drive it on the road legally? that was at the bottom of the mopar stage 2 site

If you have 20 grand to spend, there's nothing out there that even comes close to the SRT-4, NONE!!!
I don't understand drivers that would buy anything else. I'm thinking of buying one and building it as my drag car.

Well I should probably change my screen name now but I just became an 04 SRT4 owner on 4/17/04.

I had pland to buy an EVO RS but couldnt wait the extra few months. Summer is around the corner and I wanted a car now... so what i was able to afford is the SRT4.

I got it in E-blue, with the Viper style seats and the kicker sound system. I also ordered it w/o sunroof.

I got the sales man to knock off a few hundred dollars so i payed $21371 before TTL. Other dealerships in NJ and other parts of NY were marking them up anywhere fropm $500 to $5000.

Anyway, it has 221 miloes on it now, and I still need to break it in. I love the car so far.... The blue is real nice and the car turns lots of heads!!!!

I can't see all these SRTs running 12s on a stage 1. I have been to the track many times this year and all the SRTs are high 13s, low 14s WITH MODS. Whereas the Evos are consistant mid-low 13s. And I noticed a lot of SRTs when dragging, backfire.

Mopar will not warantee stage 3 as I have heard. They may install it though. It's for track use/offroad.

For the price, which isn't that great for 22,000 plus tax, financing, you're getting a 12K Neon with 12k in performance mods.

Good luck to those who own them.

Damn, I get atleast 275-280 miles from a full tank of gas which is when my gas light generally comes on. Maybe it's because Texas has 93 octane instead of 91 like most states, or atleast here in Dallas it's 93 octane. Also, how could a person not respect a mid 14 second naturally aspirated four banger like the itr. That thing will have tons of aftermarket support just like the older itr's.
