yep, as stated above that motor finally went postal during a race.....not sure if it was at a drag strip or the One Lap of America but it did give up the ghost. It appears that 400hp is pretty reliable but more than that and you're risking boom-boom without serious beefing up.

I don't quite remember how much beefing up they did (if any)......I was just making the point that to stay at 500 HP you need SERIOUS beefing up....definitely more than they had.

Yup...If i had an SRT-4..the first ****ing thing I would do would be a bore stroke honing and forged rods and pistons....That's just me though..Some people just think they have factory freaks...but as you will find out that aint the case and people are just doing stupid **** for 1 or 2 good runs...Why not have a nice daily driver that will actually last more then just 3 runs down the track and still put up 600whp....For example My old gsx was rated at 562whp, On 117 octane race gas and the T-67 spinnin a full 26psi to redline I managed a personal best of 10.97 at memphis raceway's 1/4th...On a day that was 90+heat and humid as **** because it had rained all week...I could have easily reached the mid 10's...And I drove that car EVERY SINGLE DAY. to work, out of town, to the track, just cut down the boost and ran nothing less thne 93octane and it was very streetable..I just dont understand why dumb**** kids push so hard when if you use your ****ing head and have been tuning these engines long enough you dont have to do such stupid **** to lay down numbers....Maybe i'm an "old school" tuner but thats my damn $.02!

If you're talking about Steve Anderson with his 525 whp SRT-4, he was just trying to push the stock internals to their limits. He even used the stock spark plugs which are even too hot for mildly modded SRT-4's, let alone 500 hp ones, and which some say caused his engine to blow the first time. Next time (3rd engine), he going with a stand-alone system instead of a piggyback. The PCM kept interferring with all the engine management which fugged up his car. So technically we have yet to see the SRT-4 engine to it's potential on stock internals.

The Dynoworks SRT-4 made a 11.6 pass @ 120+ mph, and made over 500 whp with a stand-alone system. We'll see how far that car goes.

But in all reality, I wouldn't go over 400+ whp on an SRT-4 because of traction obviously, which is still enough for me. If I wanted an all-out drag car I would've gotten a V8. My SRT-4 is fine for a first car. Heh.

Tell us how you really feel.

Shooting for maximum power with an everyday driver seems to be inviting trouble, in my eyes.

I just spent like $1500 in parts on my SRT4, with slicks, and proper tuning I should be running mid 12's at 108+ MPH

You're right if you dont know what the **** youre doing. For example dont go pick up an AEM saECU and changing all the settings by a "seat of the pants" estimate...If you're speaking in that sence..then yes having a 500+hp daily driver would be stupid and out of the question...My car was professionally built and tuned (By myself and others (Chip) at Tuners Customs located in birmingham alabama. Every click of the boost, timing, knock sensor, air fuel misture; was all calculated by a dyno run that followed. I had it on a two stage system, If I flicked it down to track the AEM saECU would have everything calculated for 117octane gas, a flick of the boost controller and I was holding 26 psi to redline; as for when i was on the street I was running a steady 20psi on no less then 93 octane gas, the whp when it was set up for street was plenty enough to hand these redneck driving v-8's there *** at the stoplights.

My gsx was easily streetable and I never had a single problem out of the car...Why? because I did my tuning right..IN my opinion what "what ever his name is" was plumb ignorant not changing out the plugs...Was he just begging for plug fowl AKA detonation?...If youre going to tune your engine then dont cut any corners, wheather you have the money to replace the engine or not it's just not nessesarry in my eye's.I thing all angles should be covered and done by professionals that back there work up with a signature and a notorized sheet of paper . Thats my $.02..

I suppose someone has to, just to figure out the limits and such...I just wouldnt be able to bring myself to it personally.
