Wow - those are pretty substantial differences. I know the goals are different (power band, fuel economy), but having two different motors like that seems like it would raise the cost of production, no?

Maybe at Accord volume / scale, they don't care, and the CTR motors are the more 'bespoke' ones?

The Type-Rs, historically, have always had special engines, often built by hand. I'm happy to see the tradition continuing, though they could have gone the more cost-saving route and shared with the Accord.

I remember when Honda introduced the first Accord coupe. It didn't share a single body panel with the sedan. It has to cost them profit, but yeah, tradition.

It would have been cheaper to use the Accord 2.0t in the type-r. Not the other way around.
