Civic Type R
You guys are missing the point. Dealerships can add a markup because demand vastly exceeds supply. If Type Rs were sitting on lots for months unsold, the markups would be stupid, and I'm sure Honda would be pissed.
However, that's not happening. All I've seen is that in some regions where demand is very high, markups are there and the car is still selling out quickly.

yah i think the whole thing is just another manifestation of wealth inequality, and the resentment around that issue. Most people can't afford a Porsche or a Lotus etc but if you where willing to sacrifice luxury and some other things you could at least get a lot of performance for a reasonable price. Now potentially the top model Honda Civic is gonna cost you 50k which just seems kinda redic. Capitalism is what it is, but greed needs to be kept in check, and the dealers just come off extra greedy in this situation.
I guess that's why I see it differently: locally, they have not been selling and I have no clue what other areas are doing. The cars here are marked up $13-15k. Nobody around here, that wants one, is willing to pay it (more likely can't afford to). Those that do have $50k to spend on a car are going other routes. Hell.. I'm not a GTR fan... but I'd buy one and go play Gran Turismo, before I bought a $50k Civic.

Production numbers aren't even that low. When I bought my RS in 04 the dealer was marking up MR's but I paid the sticker price out the door.
The target market isn't paying $50K for the most part. If your spending that you're going to visit a different dealer and get luxury and performance

Here is a video of my B-Street Evo X against Danny Kao's Type R from yesterday's WDCR autocross. SCCA has not decided on Type R classing yet but it is assumed that it will be classed in either BS or DS.
I cut out the first corner where I underdrove (had a scary slide on my first run there and just couldn't get myself to push it) for the sake of comparison.
Danny's time was 54.0 and mine was 54.5. As you can see with the first corner edited out we are about even, Danny is maybe a tick faster.

looks to handle very well. i gotta imagine it goes into BS considering the cost and availability too. then next year depending on how many frs/brzs migrate to ssc, reformat DS back into the boost buggy class
I'm interested to see what Honda offers in the "Hardcore" variant of the Type R.
