woulda been cooler if it was the Yaris, but beggars can't be choosers... and this thing is still looking pretty sweet! and based on the pics it looks like the interior is pretty decent, unlike the GR Yaris full 90's rental car spec interior. And I'm really not digging the triple exhaust. And the fender flare on the door, looks too liberty walk to me (not a fan of it on the Supra either)

that being said, assuming its priced right, I'd still buy it

Agreed on the panels. It's one thing I don't like about the supra. they all feel pretty cheap too, you push on panels on the supra and they creak. Also the panel alignment is not a strong point on the supra. Also not down with the triple exhaust on the Corolla but I do love how overall quirky and unapologetic it is.

heavier than i thought it'd be, but honestly i'd love if there were a dct version for a daily driver. this is a lot of machine, i'm betting it will be 40k+, especially with the optional front and rear lsd's... might rather pick up a veloster N dct in 5-10 years time, but very very interested in this. just feels like there'd be a lot of overlap with the evo.

The normal Corolla hatchback weighs 3060 lbs so 3249lbs for awd, turbo, larger brakes, etc seems right in 2022. It’s 200lbs lighter than a Golf R.

It’s also wider than my Evo 10 by two inches.

The Yaris GR is way lighter because it’s much smaller and isn’t even based on the normal Yaris. Totally different chassis unique to the Yaris GR.

Toyota engineers must have had CTR exhaust envy.

200 lbs less than a porky Focus RS too. Cudos Toyota for F/R Torsen diffs !.

(assuming the below 3250 is correct) what did you think it was gonna weigh? its a pretty good size 4 door hatch...

Where'd y'all see the weight? I didn't see it in that drive article... anyway, if its 3250 thats fine in my book. on par with the Evo 8/9, 250+ lighter than the Evo 10... same power... modern chassis... plus with the aluminum 3 banger in the front instead of an iron 4 of the Evo 8/9 it'll have better weight distribution. I'm curious how big of tires that thing can fit under it

and the engine is pretty good to. I've been following the Motive guys GR Yaris build and they got it to around 500whp on stock block but lifted the head at that point, so 450ish should be safe, which is about on par with stock block performance of evo's. although thats relatively short term testing... personally I wouldn't go past basic bolt ons and tune anyway.

Looks like I finally have a good replacement for my 9 lol! I actually like the Corolla version as I think it looks better and should have a little more versatility/room for you know, life outside storming around mountain roads or your local race track...is it me or does this sound like the Evo reincarnated?

The triple exhaust is generally not my thing but I think it is far better executed here than on the CTR by far, more subtle the way Toyota has it executed here. Apparently that exhaust is what helped Toyota get more HP out of the motor. BTW is some version of this motor already sold in the US? If not I'm amazed Toyota went through the hassle of getting that drive train through EPA and CARB requirements...

That said, good luck getting your hands on one and not paying over the top...on the bright side should hold its value over the years, especially as everything moves to electric..

yeah this had the triple exhaust all centered like the CTR I wouldn't even mention it... but the dual + center is like a preteen was designing the car. I mean sure they credit some extra power to the exhaust, there's no doubt they could have achieved the same power with a centered only or dual only with the same amount of effort.

this same engine isn't in the US in anything else as far as I know

I think so too since it has 2 LSD Torsen diffs and an active center diff. I like the fact you can select a 50:50 torque split or a 30:70. Auto will come but debuts with a 6-sp manual.
Looks like it would be a fun little AWD track car. We shall see when the press gets their hands on it and rings it out. Who would have thought Toyota developes an AWD enthusiast car when everyone else appears to be shelving those developements and focusing on EV product.

So many have commented on that .....It really doesn't effect me that much. It probably has active valving and the designers spoke that it was needed to help achieve 300 hp. This still amazes me (100 hp) per cylinder out of a 1.6L. stock!! .... with potential for more.
Aftermarket will be available to change exhaust as everyone wants their own flavor. If is sounds good stock it will give some creedance to the look.
Remember GR made the amazing sounding LFA.
If it sounds and performs better than the current 3 pot FiST....I'm all in.
