Yea its a long way to drive if you are counting on racing and then dont get to.....but I'm sure spectating would be great fun too.

You better stick with your autocrossing then, we would rather have your face replaced on the track or in the stands with a happy/smiling person. This is for the kids anyway! have fun!

Jeff, the registration is open Jan-April, if you want to add your name, do it, if not, thats fine also. The people "selected" will be notified in advance, you wont find out at the gate. So you have plenty of time to prepare.

If we have 1000 people signed up, how the heck can we run them all thru in a day? Or what if we did it for all who showed up? Where is the drama and excitement with that?

White777, as for the thousands who are viewing this on sites all over, and the hundreds of people who answered, YOU are the only one with a NEGATIVE comment. pm me your address, I will send you a "special" trophy for that!

it's not an autocross, it's a car show featuring some competition.

Just to clarify, the classes won't be based upon drivetrain/NA/Turbo, etc directly. We have an indexing system based upon base car + modifications that will determine what class cars fall into. With the information we collect at registration we'll have enough data to rank our choices for the teams. This is an area I'm spending a lot of time right now.

We will make sure to have a nice variety of cars represented on each team, but the classes will be based upon our rank system.

The car show is not the main event. But it'll be a very nice sideshow. The performance challenge is where we're putting 95% of our time and effort.

And 70 cars is a LOT of entrants. Register! It doesn't get you into the event, but we promise you won't get in f you don't. The teams will be announced a few weeks before the event so you can prepare if you're selected. Free racing is pretty popular, so we'll have to turn some away so that we can run 7+ events in one day. We'd love to let everyone run, but we have to be realistic with our own resources. We're not trying to be jerks about this, but understand our event is FAR FAR more involved than your run of the mill autocross. Heck, the autocross is maybe 1/10 of what we're offerening...for ZERO profit to us.

Don't get me wrong, the charity angle is great. I have no problem with that. I just think that I speak for many that feel there is no way my stock looking car with average modifications would have a chance of getting selected regardless of how I would perform. I need more stickers.

"Stickers" slow you down anyway. Don't think there is not a chance of you getting in, on the contrary! You said you are speaking for the many. The many are not posting the same feelings as you. Sign up when the site is up!

<<<-------Last year: STOCK ride, NO stickers, participated, made a modest contribution, had tons of fun, showed off some skill.

This year: slightly modified (see sig), NO stickers, will sign up, will attend, will make a LARGER contribution this year, even if I do not get selected participate.

I would bet you that after comments like that, Kevin (SmokedMustang) would include you on Team Import JUST to make a point and prove you wrong. But needling the organizers isn't the best way to get picked IMO. Being nice to them and buying them lunch is j/k.
From the way you talk it sounds like you have some driving skill.....which trumps everything else anyway. I still say sign up if you do want to come, sounds like you would be a welcome addition to Team Import. And if you don't want to come......then stay out of the post.

can I have a link to the "Call to battle for AMS/Bushur/AL" thread?

This sounds like it can be a blast, with coverage which makes it enticing and for a good cause.

Nevermind, found it.

The AMS Drag car will be at the Midwest Nationals in IL, but I will see what I can do about bringing the roadrace car in for the event.

we really dont need just a drag car, but it helps the "team", we need well rounded rides! We have a couple of 1000+hp cars which will help us in the 1/4 mile. We also need the cars that can stay in the skidpad circle the longest, and hook and stick like no other in the slalom. and lets not forget the autoX, or the braking contest.

The reason I mention where the drag car will be is because it means Martin (tuner/owner) of AMS wont be there.. it would be just me with the car.

As far as "deep" with them.. I am their roadrace/time attack driver. Did One Lap of America for them last year, will be doing One Lap/Time Attacks etc.. in 2006. I don't even own an Evo, just drive theirs.

The Roadrace car is currently under construction.
