Stuck with a Busted Clutch in the Detroit Burbs...

I live in Chicago. My clutch stopped working and my car is at my parents' house in West Bloomfield. I am going to have AAA put it on a flatbed to a dealer on Monday. Anybody in Michigan know of a place to repair my clutch better than a dealer? Any dealers to use or to AVOID would be appreciated.

109000 miles, original clutch, no modifications. I drove from Chicago to my parents' house Friday with no problems. Woke up Saturday and drove to a hotel in Ypsi. I noticed when I arrived that the clutch engaged/disengaged very close to the floor and the pedal would not return to the top. I had to bring the pedal back to the top with my foot.

Sunday morning it still engaged close to the floor and I made it from Ypsi to the Meijer on Haggerty & Maple. Left Meijer to go to my parents' house and the clutch stopped working altogether. Started it in 3rd gear and limped to their house. That's where I am now.

Any assistance you can give would be great!

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Speed Industries in Troy is good. Showcase Mitsu in Bay City is awesome. Ann Arbor is good also. Do not go to Southgate or Moran.

Go to mievo.net

MitsuJoe or PPI or Antilag_200 can do clutch jobs.

My plan was to go home to Chicago and call the place in Troy Monday morning. If they sounded good I would call AAA and have it towed there. I have AAA Plus and they tow 100 miles. I called AAA and they said I had to be with the car when it gets towed, no exceptions. I had to get back to Chicago so I had it towed to Ann Arbor . Filled out the drop box envelope and left it there on my way back home. Coming from Chicago, Ann Arbor is more than an hour closer than Troy. Kzoo is out of the question because I have my parents' car and that's too far from WB to exchange cars.

They called this morning to authorize $1100 for repairs. I told them it may just be the clutch cable because my clutch is not slipping. They called back and said it is the clutch and it's $1600. They said my flywheel is OK and doesn't need to get sent out.

They also did the whole, "We noticed some other things with your car..." and they wanted:

$135 for a battery
$500 for front brake pads
$565 for 90K Service
$765 for Yokohama AVS Sport

I am going to get a DieHard and take the care to AMS for everything else. Thanks a lot for the replies. I will let everybody know how it turns out. Car is supposed to be ready on Friday.

I'm confused... they called to authorize $1100 in repairs after they already removed the tranny?

When my 1G DSM did the exact same, it was a bad slave cylinder. $150 repair vs. $1500. I've never heard of a clutch that was fine one day, and not the next... every bad clutch I've driven always slipped for several weeks, giving me ample time to replace.
