Question about Cone Filter
Question about Cone Filter
Hey guys, I have an 08 X GSR and have a Perrin turbo inlet pipe, but still have the stock airbox. Should I get a cone filter for it or just get a new air intake system?
Great, thanks Kracka. I bought the car with the turbo inlet and almost all the work that is done to it right now already done, so I just don't understand why they would put the turbo inlet pipe on by itself instead of going ahead with a full intake?
Are there any power gains from just the inlet by itself?

Gotcha. Seems like a waste to put something that is over half of what it would cost to get a good intake on it though. And with my current setup it seems a full intake would have been a no brainer on it, but I thought maybe a cone k&n or something with the inlet would create almost the same airflow as getting an intake.
I have a perrin turbo inlet and cobb sf "cone" intake...Do you need a retune? I did but I have more mods than and intake only..I used to run a cone intake(local autoparts store)) without a tune and no problem at all and you'll hear your bov louder to feed the ricer within lol

Don't waste your money with dyno tuning for just an intake. The stock computer can compensate for much more than just an intake. Once you've got intake and a full exhaust, then it's time to think about some dyno time.
The filter itself isnt what will throw off the tune, its the diameter of the MAF housing. If youre using a stock diameter housing, you will be fine. If you are increasing the diameter as with the AMS, etc you should tune for it for optimal results.
Also, a wideband is a good idea.
Have you replaced your fuel pump relay yet?

Well I bought the car with a turboback, Turbo inlet, gt3071r Turbo, and injectors and some other supporting mods. So I don't know if maybe they had the Turbo inlet and a drop in filter or what. Seems kinda odd to me though not having the intake, being that is most peoples first or second mod. But having these other after market parts and getting a new filter or intake will I need a tune?
from what i've read. the stock air box with k&N or similar filter is plenty fine till 400hp. also people are having idle issues because the cone filters are picking up hot air from the rad fans. .. these could be a couple of reasons that there is no full intake. I'm personally keeping the air box till i have stage 2 type mods. then i'll likely run the air box in the spring and fall (messy Rainy/muddy months) and SF in the dryer months.
