Evo X Exedy Stage 1 Clutch - Please help

So I just got the car back from the shop today after I got my new Exedy Stage 1 Heavy Duty clutch upgrade from stock.

My clutch pedal is very stiff and and it springs back like crazy?

Is this normal on these clutches? Any way to make the pedal softer?

I am asking cause the main reason I got the stage 1 is to have the stock like pedal feel and this clutch feels like a stage 3-4 clutch?

Any help, greatly appreciated

Maybe it still needs to be broken in since it's new? That's all I got. I've never changed my clutch.

It's definitely not a super-powerful clutch. When they did the install did you change to a stainless line? Did they remove the restrictor pill? Did they bleed the line? Any of those things will change how the pedal feels.

2010 evo, stock clutch lines, pill has not been removed, I believe they bleed the line.

It is not an engagement issue, is more of a hard spring back on the clutch pedal, feels like if it had a larger spring and kicks hard back on the return.

I called Exedy this morning and they say that it is suppose to feel that way based on the Heavy Duty Pressure plate. I tought it wasnt going to feel that way based on being the stage 1, plus other reviews online.

Does anyone have this set up that can pitch in on clutch pedal feel for this clutch?

Did you get the Stage 1 or Stage 1 HD? The HD has a heavy pressure plate consistent with what you're describing.

I got the Stage 1 HD, the tranny shop suggested I get the HD plate for better performance.

I mean the performance is there, the clutch grabs like crazy. Im just not used to this type of clutch, plus now I am really concerned about my CMC and my Differential with this clutch set up.

I was just trying to get some feedback in the forum to see if anybody else has the same kind of set up where the clutch pedal feels this way, cause I was a little concern that something was not installed properly, but all gears are going thru fine and there is no noise or anything, is just the pedal problem.

I recently had the same clutch installed. I have about 1000+ miles on it now. I was very concerned about the stiff pedal at first. But, after some time, either I got used to it or it smoothed out a bit. I think it was more of me getting used to it. I did however loose my CMC. It took about two weeks and the CMC failed completely. I don't know if the 2010 is any better. This happened with about 56K on the car. I know that at least for the last 30k the car had a clutch master clutch in it. I think it was the FX300 model. That came from the previous owner.

Here is my post about the CMC
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...er-victim.html

Once I got all the issues worked out with the CMC and put some miles on the clutch, it all feels real strong now. I have a lot of confidence in the set up.

Best Wishes with the set up.

Update: clutch has ease up on stiffness, 200 miles on it. haven't had any problems with CMC, fingers crossed.

The only bad thing is that 1st gear always stalls when releasing the clutch pedal out unless I rev 2k RPM or more. It feels like I am riding the clutch by doing that, but I have no other choice as I dont want the car to turn off on me on the middle of the road.

Clutch calls for a 500 mile break in, hopefully this stall goes away, and the release gets smoother.

There ya go. The HD is a very heavy pressure plate. If going for a basic upgrade I recommend the standard Stage 1. It's not getting any softer though, your left leg is just getting used to it. I had this plate in my IX and it is heavy, but not unbearable; with a smooth full-face disc it's still daily-drivable.

hey Kracka what would happen if I take the clutch pill out, would that smooth out the clutch release in any way?

It would make it a tiny bit grabbier actually.

I am using this hd set up in my car since 2009. Def. Stiffer then stock. But it is actually a very good clutch.
You just have to get used to it.

Just like the OP, my clutch has started giving out (damn you 5k bounce feature) - i've been looking around and pretty much narrowed my search to the Exedy Twin HD that AMS has up on their site. I've also read that the stock CMC is prone to giving out shortly after a new aftermarket clutch is installed, would you guys recommend that i also replace the stock cmc with AMS's upgrade CMC option? I'm currently at around 350whp and 360trq, with no plans on upgrading to 450 in the near future (savings went to a new house), will a twin HD be too much for that power? recommend another daily driver clutch? (clutch resistance is not a factor in this case, i could care less if its hard to press, besides, it'll act like a work out . Thanks!
